UPDATE 3/21/18: Clearance sales begin Thursday, 3/22 in most Toys R Us stores: https://www.usatoday.com/story/mone...-toys-r-us-liquidation-sale-starts/443056002/

Hi all,

While news of this has been surfacing for quite some time, things are gradually becoming more clear as far as the future of toy store giant Toys R Us:

https://www.nytimes.com/2018/03/14/business/toy-r-us-closing.html

http://fortune.com/2018/03/16/toys-r-us-closings-mattel-hasbro-lego-affected/

The reported closing date for US stores is approximately 2 months from now. Anyone with gift cards or gift certificates is encouraged to use them before it's too late.

More will be added to this thread as concrete details emerge.

I also heard that the stores are being offered to private buyers, stock included, which is why no clearance yet.

Does anyone know if\when it will close in other countries?

I know that a few stores are closing in the UK within a few months. Some stores will remain open, like the ones in the bigger cities like York and such. I'm not sure about other counties though, sorry!

One less spot to find Ponies. It's like they want us to suffer!

I actually realised today that the stores near me have closed down. The closest one is now 40-60 minutes away depending on traffic :(

I just bought a bunch of G4's from Toys R Us in Canada. The stores haven't looked busy here for years. It looks like the same thing is happening in Canada.

I heard though in the states they are going to bring back KB toys. I hope not all toy stores are lost. The TRU up here isn't close just yet. thankfully.

The Toys 'R Us-es in Dallas are madhouses right now. My wife went there on Friday to scope out toys and all of the ponies were gone (except for rows and rows of Pinkie Pie).

If you like video games, they're liquidating almost EVERYTHING, including 40% off of X-Box Ones! Nintendo Switches are still full price, though.

Any one know if the one in McKinney is closing or has clearance?

@ActionHank, it looks like the ones in Dallas closing are Allen, the one near the Galleria, Irving, Lewisville, Hurst, and one in Fort Worth

I was in Toys R Us yesterday in Canada and they assured me they are not closing in Canada. At least not yet. In fact, the store was hiring. Hmmm, maybe I go work there.

I went to Toys R Us today and there was a large banner out side that said every thing was up 30% off, we only found one thing that was 30% off every thing else was a mix between 5% and 10%, and every thing was still overpriced. This was at the store on McKinney.

That is a common liquidator's practice. They will put a banner out to get people in and hope they will not notice things are not at that % off yet. It happened when the company my husband worked for years ago went out of business. It will take a few weeks before they will go to 30% even though they say it is at that, its just psychological. They would rather get as much as they can for what is in the store. I usually don't go in until the final week. Anything before that is just not worth it price wise.

The TRU webpage is lock so you cant order anything on it. Going into the store seem the only way to get anything.

The selection at the McKinney store was very, very limited. As always. Their Pony section has always been almost nonexistent. I bought one little Pinkie Pie mermaid (the water cutie one) and we left otherwise with nothing. MLP is 10% off.

On one note, the banner is luring people in, I haven't seen the store so busy in years. However, people were openly verbal about the pricing. They were quite aware things had been marked up to absorb any 'savings' the whatever % would have netted them. Lots of crying children leaving without the goodies they'd hoped for. Sorta sad, really.

Oh, one regret, I didn't get the last big 'character set' from the MLP Movie and they didn't have it. Looks like I might have to try eBay. Or just do without, which is also an option.

Yea that is sad. I never really liked taking kids to the toy store unless I was positive I would buy them something. That is sheer torture for a child and frankly unfair. Soapbox...alert ROFLOL

I can't think of anything I need at Tru. I do like Calico critters, but have a lot of them, do like the Schleich and want more of those, but they didn't ever get any new ones in and the ones they have I might not need as much. Their Breyer stuff is not really all that great. So, for the most part I was at a loss as to what to buy. If this had happened during the G3 era I would have loaded my cart down mega big time. lol

I need the Rarity Carousal exclusive toy and I was going to order it but with the site down and me living 2 hours from the closest TRU yeah not going to happen. Ebay prices are waaaaaay to much.
