Does anyone know how to identify wax toy models?

There are wax toy models of G2 ponies on Ebay. [Live auction link removed]

The seller seems legit but I don't want to spend hundreds of dollars on fakies. I asked the seller about their provenance, and they replied that the models had been purchased from an old Kenner/Hasbro employee within the last six months.

There is no way I (or anyone else, I assume) will pay $600 for those. But I might consider $200...

Any thoughts or insight is appreciated!

I saw them. I guess I'm just not a hard core collector. I like pretty ponies and have no interest in prototypes, molds, or squeaky butts. *shrugs* If they are real and ooak then $600 isn't unreasonable. Considering that many nirvana ponies go for over $500 each and they aren't ooak.

They're probably legit . . . A G2 MLP would be a weird, obscure thing to make a wax model off of if they were trying to scam someone.

What a cool item!

@Tak , good point that some ponies go for $500+. I guess I'm just a poor millennial. :) I bought some G1s at a thrift/antique store recently and couldn't believe they wanted $15 for a dirty pony with tail rust and $50 for a broken carry case.

@LadyMoondancer , also good point that it would be an obscure thing to make a scam of. And I don't think I've ever seen G2 fakies either.

I don't think it's a fake either.
@KatSunhawk I'm broke, permanently. The only two ponies I splurged on were Greek windy $150 and mimic the same. As much as I'd love to get baby game time, or baby sugarcake, it's just a dream. I didn't get a rather sad lot of Argentina ponies that I sent to be restored. Anything that hits $200 just can't happen, though. I might even have to sell those two soon. The argies won't be done for a long while. If I was interested in prototypes I'd only be willing to go with $200, too. It does make me appreciate the ponies that I have so much more since I've had to downsize.

They've got a wax model of a Fashion Star Filly too, but the poor thing has lost two legs. (Makes sense since G2 MLP and FSF were both designed by Kenner . . . Hasbro had just bought Kenner when G2 started.)
