Tinsel or no tinsel?

I can't seem to stop asking questions...grr. I looked to see if there was a thread on this somewhere, but all I could find was "how to de-tinsel". At least I tried.

Ok, I'm contemplating whether or not I should de-tinsel some of my G3s, because, as we all know, it does stupid things when you try to style the hair. But how much does that de-value them? It's not like mine are worth much of anything, but give them ten years...
So anyways, should I remove the evil tinsel, or leave it and not style the pony's hair? --Starlight

I think it would devalue them. I also think you should do it if you want to. There are so many g3s you could always pick up another one if you are holding onto them for the value.

I'd probably leave it, since removing it will definitely devalue your ponies and the tinsel is a part of their overall "look". But if you like them better without, I agree that you could always do it anyway and just buy another one to keep mint if you're wanting to collect them. ;) I'm not too fond of tinsel either, but my solution is just to not buy as many ponies with tinsel in their hair, lol.

i prefer not to detinsel, not because of the question of devaluing, but because both times i've done it i've come to regret it too late to get a replacement.

I agree. I don't detinsel..unless I am making a custom, and then it doesn't matter anyhow! lol

I never detinsell my ponies. I like to keep them the way they are supposed to be.

Offcourse it will devalue them. But there are tons and tons of them out there so we're not talking a lot of money. Not even in ten years.

I /hate/ tinsel, but I still leave it on my ponies... mostly just because I'm so lazy. XD Argh, my Seascape has the nastiest. tinsel. ever. though. x.x

I have only ever detinselled one pony from my collection, that was the Blossomforth that came with the purse. The origional Blossomforth didn't have tinsel, so why should the re-issue?! In general I don't detinsel though, I like them to be as they were intended to be.

sure it devalues 'em, but some sure do look better without the tinsel. Do it if you wanna.

I rather like thetinsel, because I have been able to tame it with boiling hot water and then a loose braid while wet until it dried, then a light combing :)

I *hate* tinsel. Didja get that? H-A-T-E...

^_^ All of my ponies are de-tinseled. Some are not 100%, but I took a good majority of it out and maybe left a strand or 5 for contrast. The tinsel has got to be the worst gimick idea I've ever seen. All my dd's ponies with tinsel are a gnarled, snarled, staticy mess. Yuck.

I don't care if that's the way they were intended, but then again, I don't care what their value is. I get 'em because they make me happy. I'm not investing in them for long-term growth. ^_^

Do whatever makes you happy. If you're worried about their future value, then leave the tinsel be.

I know the tinsel is mad and messy, but I like that. In a way it reminds me that these are children's toys and not intended to be too perfect. Little girls don't mind the wildness, they just think it looks pretty :D

I certainly think you should detinsel if you want to. Maybe it's worth trying to tame it first though? Some people seem to manage it. If it doesn't work then you could rip it out.

Maybe in ten years' time we will see on ebay -

'Rare variant Sparkleworks, no tinsel'

I hate hate hate the tinsel. I just got a g3 with tinsel, by the time I got her outta the box, the tinsel was crazed. But as much as I hate it, I amafraid if I do retinsel it, I'll regret it...lol.

i've only detinsled one of my ponies, **looks at September Sweety with glee** she looks so much better! her tinsel had gone haywire! you know those G1 ponies with nice hair but matted tinsel at the top? that's what she looked like

Re

My Seascape had horrible tinsel too! I love her so much I detinseled her. Now her hair is silky smooth and I like her much better. The Tinsel clashed anyway.

I've only de-tinselled one of my ponies because it got so unruly that I didnt know what else to do with her! At first I thought it looked alot better but now I feel that Bee Bop has lost her sparkle....poor pony!!
It does make the pony look alot smoother but if you wanted to de tinsel ur pony, buy a MIB one so u'll always have a spare if you dont like it
