G1 There is no G1.5

Just to clarify to G4, new, younger, people who are not aware.....

There is no G1.5. Splitting a generation into .5 would have to signify a change in the style of toys, or an end and a restart to the toy, or a redesign. " My Little Pony Tales" is still G1. When they played the show on the Disney Channel, they also showed episodes from " My Little Pony 'n Friends" at the same time.

Now the fact that the UK was the only lucky people to get any toys released from Hasbro is another matter...

I don't think I've ever seen anyone call it G1.5, but I do agree with you, Fizzy, that Tales really is very much a continuation of G1. Now, G3.5... that was a big leap lol.

I'm glad I got my Tales ponies years ago, they seem harder and harder to find nowadays! :winkpony: I don't think I could pick a favorite among them, though I wish they had made the boys! Teddy, Lancer, Ace... They would have been so neat!
 
I recall years ago the discussion on whether Tales Ponies are part of the same line.....
It was the series that was different not the ponies themselves,
It's certainly an interesting thing to consider though.
I agree @MustBeJewel they should have had the "Boys" as toys as well :D
 
This is a bit off topic but I think it will give people a bit of a laugh.

When I was a senior in high school a freshmen was trying to impress me. I had a My Little Pony shirt (from G4) on and she starts freaking out. She says how much she loves ponies. I tell her I collect ponies and I really enjoy them. She chimes in that she's the biggest MLP fan ever. She then goes on about how G5 is so freaking awesome. She then nudges my arm and winks "It's so much better than 2.5. Everyone hates that ugly 2.5, am-ehi-right?" I just stare at her and proceed to tell her there is no 2.5. She then proceeds to glare at me, tell me I know nothing about ponies, I need to learn to be a true fan, and then storms off. She never talked to me again. I still can't help but laugh when I think about her :lolpony:

I had never heard anyone refer to Tales as 1.5. I think if anything, sweetheart sisters would've been 1.5 but since they were part of the same family and just "teens", they're all the same G1.

Do you think there will be a G5 at some point?
 
There may be a G5 at some point, but I don't see that happening unless FiM's popularity starts to decline enough to justify a rebranding.
 
On that note, people really need to learn that G2 is not Tales, either.

This is actually one of the few things that really anger me, people who don't bother to do their freaking research. And even worse, use their limited knowledge to form half-baked opinions and acting all entitled about them. Everything I know about ponies I found on the Internet over the course of a few days, a week at most. Seriously, it's not that hard! Why do people keep doing this? WHY?? *muffles scream with pillow*
 
I've never seen the term 1.5 used, but I have seen people refer to Tales as a G2 cartoon. Um, no.

G1.5 is only a term that has come up since G4, and boils down to people not doing their research or assuming that the show sets the generations instead of the toys. No change to toys = no change to generation.

There was this whole huge discussion on people who refer to Tales as G1.5. We all make mistakes, I only recommend biting the young whippersnappers head off if they bite yours off first after you kindly correct em. ;) It's pop culture history its not really all that important in the Grand Universal Scheme of things, so the one time I saw it on youtube I said what I had to say and left it at that

There's always customization. Though I was never huge on Ace, Teddy and Lancer were adorable. I'd really like to find some common G3s and make Patch and Clover too

Me too!! <3 <3 I don't have ANY of the Tales pony, I never got around to collecting them... and now their prices have sky rocketed... :(

I think once G4 winds down, it's highly possible. I don't see Hasbro pulling the plug on MLP unless they feel like they can't make any money.

I'm not even sure why we have to defend/explain it this much. The collectors who've been collecting since the 80's consider both sets G1. Newer collectors don't need to come along and try to change the terminology. I find it annoying but try to keep the perspective that there are bigger issues in the universe.
 
I will admit that I might be one of the "ignorant" in that I know absolutely nothing about any generation other than G1. I can distinguish them by what they look like (except I have no idea what the difference between g3 and g3.5 is). To be honest I don't really care though either. I only love the originals so I just don't get involved with the other gens. I have never heard of all this silly talk about 0.5 or 1.5 though either or I may be a little more annoyed with it like everyone else is. From my experience the youngins on MLPTP seem to be a good group! Maybe I just don't pay enough attention but I haven't seen anybody being rude or crazy about things they are wrong about.
 
Yes, I've heard a lot of newer collectors calling the MLP tales G1.5s or even G2s. Feels very wrong in my ears so I hope it's not something that will stick.

2.5 was a super secret generation, only known to True Fans (TM) who were willing to do a Blood Oath to protect the Sacred Herd. Knowing this girl even mentioned 2.5 in front of a non-initiated normal person... Oh! The horrors! Troops will be sent out to round this traitor up and punish her in a manner fitting her crime. They'll probably mess up her hair and tell her is isn't really pretty at all! Then such a pinch they'll give her!

Oh, crap. I just spilled the beans too! I gotta buy a ticket to the North Pole before they catch me!
