"The OC" changed the value of Princess Sparkle

I sold an extra a few weeks ago as a christmas gift for over $30. Won't hear a word of complaint from me.

As for everyone complaining that they won't be able to afford one now, why not check the unlabeled lots for princess sparkle? for every one that has sold for $30, another has gone in a lot for less than $30. Pays to shop around on ebay.

I had a Princess Sparkle that was bait...severely thinning hair, permanate lipstick, crinkled tinsel, chewed horn. But with good lighting, and the mention of the OC, she sold for at LEAST $12 (can't remember exactly how much)

I know it seems a bit silly because we all know her real value, but I am a HUGE fan of 'Dead like me' and I am now OBSESSED with buying Frankenberry items, I've also noticed that on ebay they are getting more expencive, its just nice to have something that your favourite character had.

Bah. I don't like the O.C. either. No offense to any O.C. fans, but I just don't see what the big deal is.

I got kind of agitated with the show after the huge uproar about Marissa kissing a girl.

In my opinion she should've stayed with her. -_-

I've never watched the OC. We do get it here, on Digital TV, but I've not seen it. I am tempted to tune in to try and catch any Princess Sparkle references though!

However, I *need* a PS and I can't buy one now because of her sudden popularity. Things like this are why I DESPISE it when vintage toys get given ANY kind of attention in modern media. I hate it more than words can express. So I never understand why people get excited about ponies appearing in TV/movies/papers because all it does is make the prices skyrocket.

*jaw drop* there's one on there for $69!! I remember when I couldn't get rid of her and always had 5 or 6:p *ponders putter her extra up tomorrow* hmmm. As a seller, I'm not gonna complain! My last one sold for about $28 and she couldn't even stand well and had poofy hair

From what I've seen OC= 90210 for the 21st century.

Oy, another reason to hate the OC - I have a few very good friends who are in the very very high middle or low upper class, and I have been to the parties. They are SO not like that.

Grr. I don't like the princesses (liked the cartoon, but not the ponies) but I feel bad for people on here.

My sister gave me her NM childhood Sparkle, and for the longest time she was my ONLY princess. She now shares the spotlight with variants.

It's nice to know she's a celebrity. ^^ I don't watch the OC, but I know some girls who do. They were CRAZY about it, I was like, o_O

It's kind of like the animal-movies, kids want what they see in movies. Only, in this case, adults want what they see on TV.

yes, i know, i remember seeing posts about princess sparkle being on the OC often....
I was just pointing out that I think it has to do with the inflation of her value as of lately ;)

At one point my friend had made an icon starring Seth and Princess Sparkle that I thought about using buuutttt...
...I declared war on the O.C. before that got a chance to happen.

Dead Like Me!
How DARE they cancel that show!
Ahem. Sorry. Back on topic.

LOL :)

I actually like the OC, but I like it because it amuses me. Marissa appears to develop "problems" and have them cured within two episodes. Seth's mother developed an alcohol problem literally overnight. They don't seem to do much forward plot thinking - it just kinda gets thrown in there - "wham!". (Is it meant to be taken seriously, by the way? Because it's one of the funniest shows on E4...)

I think it's cute that Summer has a Princess Pony. But I don't like what it's done to the price...so...guess you can't win :S Mind you, it has to be said that collectors aren't helping her price either. By playing along in private sale and supporting the high ebay prices with higher private sale prices, the collecting community are probably responsible at least in part for this price continuing to be high.

So if collectors quit jacking up their private sale prices to match ebay, other collectors would stop BUYING her at high prices on ebay...and the price would drop again ^_^.

Trouble is, I doubt there are that many sellers looking to comply with that. I was looking for an upgrade of her in the summer and I had two people offer me ones for private sale. Both were around or above the $20 mark. I was clueless about the OC link at that time, so I kinda asked why it was so high, and the answer was "that's what they're selling for on ebay." And since then the price has risen again.

Thankfully, in the end I found a seller who was selling a really mint one for about $10 equivalent, here in the UK.

In short - it's kinda *up to us* whether or not she attains Mimic status or not for the new collectors of the future ^_^.

haha, I agree Taffeta, I like the show too, but not for the reason most do.

Marissa has to be the most annoying character EVER. She is a loose cannon. Do you ever notice how no matter what anybody does, even with the best intentions, Marissa is pissed off at them? How many times has she walked away from Ryan in an angry huff?
Take notice next time, how irritable her character is...it just seems so predictable and fake. Like her character just has no mystery to her. She's dull

I watch it for Seth's character, and of course the pops (Peter Gallagher), and Summer is pretty funny too. The comedic value of the show is enough to keep my interest...though I have to admit the storyline is ridiculous. Watching Marissa's mom Julie live in the trailor park after having mooched off men for so many years is classic ;)

I wonder though, do people watch the show and take it seriously? I take it as one big joke. It's so far-fetched and silly.

Oy. When I was selling off all my princesses (not a big fan of tinsel hair), Sparkle was the only one I decided to keep.

Now I'm tempted to sell her, because all she does is keep knocking Satin 'n Lace off the shelf where she is. Good condition, too.

Not to veer even more widely off topic but...she has serious competition from Lana Lang (Smallville). ^_^.

Yay for E4 ^_^.
