The Last Unicorn - ( updated Sept 29, 09 )

Yep, I'm stepping up to the table and finally doing my own custom based off of The Last Unicorn! Hey, every customizer has to eventually do one, right? XP

Going to show you all the work in progress stages as I work on them, like I did with the Jersey Devil custom. Just more fun that way, I think!

I've started with a G1 Flutter Wing Morning Glory ( baity ), and cut her up to repose her, bit by bit by bit.

SHE IS FINISHED!

I finished painting her this past Friday night, at my friend Guillermo's apartment. She was premiered at my table in the artist alley at the 2009 New York City Anime Festival for the rest of the weekend.

And here she is with the Legends unicorn custom I did a few customs ago, which steves_minty won in a silent auction over on the Arena, and the current Sign and Swap Cotton Candy ( I got to sign her! X3 ). Steves_minty was awesome enough to bring both with her to the convention for a little photo shoot with my Last Unicorn custom.

She was painted with simple acrylic paints, and sealed with a glossy sealer.

Wow, you sketching is really good. I was daydreaming the other day about making one of these too. hehe. But it'll be a very long time I think because of the bait that I want to use. I will stay tuned to see this. I love seeing how people create her.

I'm thinking about using a G2 because of the body shape, it's more slender like she is. I don't think I've got the skills and talent to turn a G3 into one. Some people have done it almost effortlessly it seems. Flutters are a good call on the body shape too.

It's coming along nicely. Had you thought about switching the 2 back legs? That may help it propotrion more in the direction that you are looking for and provide more balance. You don't want all of that hard work to go into it and it have a stress fracture come up in the tail from all of it's weight resting on that point, you know? It's just a suggestion to ponder over. It might help, then again it can be in the wrong direction of what you have in mind.

Actually, what I have in my plans is to hide a support within the hair of her tail and the feathering from that hoof that will blend down into the tail hair. She's actually in the middle of a kind of gait that Peruvian Paso's use: left left, right right. Aaaaaand, I'll be honest, I like the pose ^^;.

Coming along nicely! I do agree, though, that they eyes may need to be reformed. The Unicorn has those huge, violet eyes, and elongating the face kind of dwarfs the eyes that are already there.
