HI I LOVE MY LITTLE PONIES. i WAS JUST WONDERING WHAT OTHER PEOPLE THOUGHT ABOUT THE VINTAGE OR G1 PONIES FUTURE. I HAVE COLLECTED PONIES SINCE i WAS LITTLE (NOW AM 28) BUT THEN SOLD OFF MOST OF MY COLLECTION OR HARD TO FIND ONES 4 YEARS AGO BECAUSE I THOUGHT PEOPLE WERE BUYING THEM FOR THEIR KIDS AND THE PRICES MIGHT GO DOWN IN THE NEAR FUTURE. NOW I REGRET IT AND HAVE BEEN TRING TO GET MY COLLECTION BACK. DO YOU THINK THE PRICES WILL GO WAY DOWN IN THE FUTURE? i WAS JUST WONDERING BECAUSE I JUST BOUGHT RUPUNZEL AND i KNOW THE PRICE FOR HER IN THE PAST WAS 800 AND NOW IT IS DOWN TO 400- 600. DO YOU THINK OTHERS WILL FALLOW THE PRICE DROP OR DO YOU THINK PRICES WILL CONTUNE TO GO UP BECAUSE OF TIME? tHEN AGAIN YOU HAVE TO CONSIDER THE DEMAND OF THEM THAT MIGHT GO DOWN AS WELL AND DRIVE PRICES DOWN.

I thik prices are down because of the economy not demand etc

Many people are out of work and things are tight so they don't have the spare cash for collections and that's also why so many collections are being liquidated too - it's very sad for people who have to do that :-(

As the economy picks up and people have more money prices will go up again I'm sure. There always seems to be new collectors joining the commuity to so I think the demand for G1 ponies will be there for a long time yet.

I think ponies will be collectible for a long time. When these kids that have G3 & G4 ponies grow up and have kids, they will probably get nostalgic like we do and buy what will then be "vintage ponies." I bet G3's MIB will be considered rare like G1s MOC are now.

But right now I agree that the economy has an impact on buying and selling. Some people are selling their collections for lower prices because they desperately need money. And people are buying ponies for lower prices because that's what they can afford.

I don't think MIB G3s will ever be like boxed or MOC G1s because so many people keep the G3s boxed nowadays.

The future for G1 ponies is in the hands of the collectors themselves. They will always be worth what people are willing to pay for them :)

Quoted for truth. That's why I went ahead and opened up nearly all of mine.

Yeah, same here - I did TRY to keep mine in their boxes ... but my daughter cries until I let her open them - ugh!

So I gave up and I gave them to her. After all, ponies deserve to be loved, it's what they were made for! Plus, she's too cute to turn down anyway! lol

That is pretty much what I was going to say. Although I don't know about the value of MIB G3's. I think lots of people open theirs up under the assumption that many people keep theirs MIB. 20 years of people opening them because they figure they are so common in the package may make them rarer than we assume. Then again, that might not be the case either. Guess we'll have to wait and see. lol

Well, I two years or so it will be MLPs 30th anniversary 2012 correct me if I am wrong my math skills kept me out of the really good schools. I wonder if they will make repos of the G1 ponies.

They actually already have made retros of the original 6 and the first set of rainbow ponies. I'm hoping they do keep following through and do more! That would be great!

So funny you should mention about taking toys out of their box = my house calls it the NO STINKY PETEs rule :) and yep, I agree about the difference between the two generations as it was only by the time of the G3 people realized that this was going to be a 20+year run of a product...
Personally since I think it sad for a toy to stay in it's box even if it is a collectible, I'm teaching my girls the value of playing gently (which often translates to "when baby brother is asleep mommy and the girls will play pony parade or pony picnic or pony dance party") so that hopefully/ finally when they open up their boxes (heck their 40 gal tubs at this point) for their kids = the nostalgia is priceless

that's the real point of a collection :) in my book

I agree with maycrestmom that toys for kids should be out of boxes. I have collectible barbies that are out of the boxes cuz I was young when I got them I wanted to touch them (They were too pretty to play with). But now that I'm grown up, I like the G3s MIB. I don't think I would ever pay for a G1 MIB though.

I don't think MIB G3s will ever be as valuable as MOC G1s. First, because a lot of people have the "collector mentality" now, which you just didn't see that much in the 80s. Second, a lot of the G3 boxes have gaps that let in dust.

Personally, I don't find the G3 boxes aesthetically pleasing. G1 MOCs usually have gorgeous, watercolor card art that's different for each set. Most G3 boxes have the same boring pattern on the front and a generic clipart image on the back that's been used on a half dozen other pony-boxes--just with different colors.
