I've seen someone mention "the Delanys" on the arena? Who are they/her/him?

Oh heavens that's a blast from the past. My memory is hazy and I never had a lot to do with them but there will be other long term members with much better recall than me.

The Delaney's were a family who collected ponies they were well known for their large and extensive collection which contained quite a few at that time virtually unknown ponies. They were well respected for their knowledge as well.

They sold their collection off if memory serves quite some time ago (years ago I mean). Several long term members have their ponies in their own collections.

Does that help?

Yes, but I have two more questions. #1: Are they still selling or are they all cleaned out?
#2: Did they ever have an Ebay account, or did they sell through MLPTP or the Arena?

As far as I remember (as this was quite a few years ago) they sold off the complete collection and dropped out of the community.

I think they sold the ponies via ebay but I can't remember very clearly now. I am sure someone who was around then and remembers will be able to clear that up though.

Sorry I'm not more help.

Oh, it's fine. you've helped a lot. I did find their Ebay page by the way.

Oh good. I know that they reappeared quite unexpectedly again perhaps 18 months or 2 years ago. they sold their collection off though a good while before that.

Actually, the Delaneys reappeared again very recently (like maybe in the last month)--they posted maybe a couple times or so on the TP, and then they've been posting sales threads at the Arena. They're currently trying to sell their friend's pony collection. They're selling on eBay, as well as on the Arena (at the Arena, they have a link to their sales website). I bought a couple ponies from them just last week.

Thanks Jupiter Oski. I haven't been well so haven't been around much so not really up on things.

Yeah, I just bought a piggy and Argie Novia off them this past week :):eek:k:

Never heard of the Delanys before! But I have a friend with the last name Delany xD

Oooh! Do you have a link to the thread?

I remember The Delaneys! I had a MIB Tall Tails that came from their collection. She's since been sold though :( They indeed did have a massive collection!

The Delaney family hosted the first (or at least one of the first few) pony meets: ponypalooza in 1999 & 2000. I was at their 2000 meet, and I know of a few other collectors that are still around who attended as well.

I don't think the Delaneys sold THEIR collection. They've been selling the collection of another long-ago collector named Helen. She was never as much of a public figure in the community as the Delaney Family, but she had an extremely awesome collection of foreign ponies... many which were unknown to most collectors at the time. I met Helen in the summer of 2000 & got to see some of those rare ponies in person. Her collection is what inspired me to collect foreign ponies (aka Nirvanas).

KKV is right. The Delaney's haven't sold THEIR collection. They have assisted others in selling collections, Helen's being the biggest and best known.

The Delaneys had great resources for obtaining large MOC/MIB old stock. For a long time they were our go to for MOC/MIB ponies.

Thanks for clearing that up ladies. I joined around the time the Delaney's left. So my memory is hazy to say the least.
