I recently obtained a Streaky, one of my dreamie ponies. She has a little bit of tail rust visible, but her neck seal is still so intact and lovely looking.

Is there any way to reduce the external visible tail rust without removing her head? I would prefer to keep her as intact as possible.

Thank you!

I have a bit of a hard time with tail rust. I have used a tooth brush and soap/ water but the thing is until you get that washer out, it will only get worse addressing it even with a rust chemical. I feel your pain. I would leave her alone personally.

I would just go on and remove the head. It's not hard. The rust will just get worse if you don't, it'll weaken the plastic and make the hair a funky brown.

My main issue with removing the head is that they never seem to sit right after, and she's so pretty. :/

I know. But it's better then having your pony completely disgusting on the inside.

This was what one of my dream ponies, MO Starhopper looked like the day she came in the mail. Look at all that ick I had to clean! XQ

And this is her after

Yes you can start to see it even on non translucent ones. My daughter has a Tangerine Sunset who's got tail rust and it's only getting more noticeable as a bigger brown spot. The only reason I haven't gotten her cleaned up is because we can't get her stupid head off. That G3 glue could have saved the freakin Titanic if it had been invented back then! Argh!

But you know, Streaky's your pony. So whatever you wanna do. :fizzy:

I think you've convinced me. The tail rust on your pony is showing about as much as on mine. I can't bear the thought of her being that grimy inside. Plus it means I can wash her hair without worrying about making it worse, and make her even prettier.

I recently had to really clean a pony that had so bad of rust it reached his mane. :/ I couldn't remove the rust from his mane unfortunately without just making him a rehair. :/ Ice crystal was whom I was talking about I posted pics of him in show in tell :D

Yea all of the ponies I have had with tail rust usually had a lot of rust inside and for the life of the pony they are better off being cleaned. There is only one pose I can't seem to get to look right with loose head. I have tried all these glues that people say work. They don't. They are just gummy, messy and never dry nor glue anything. Try not removing the whole head but just part of it. Just enough to get a tooth brush inside. I do that all of the time. You don't have to remove the whole head. If you don't want to remove the head you will have to leave her be though.

Someone mentioned on one of my posts that running the head under hot water helps soften the glue as you remove the head. I tried it and it helps tremendously. I also run the body under hot water when re-inserting the tail and that has saved me from some sore thumbs on super tight pony tail holes. I used whitening toothpaste with baking soda on the rust and it came right out. Good luck on your pony.
