Strike a pose?

Hey everyone!

So while I was taking part in the March Pony Madness polls, I noticed something that strikes me as, to be blunt, odd. People choosing one pony over another because they find a pose unattractive.
Does the pony's pose REALLY matter that much to people?
And why?
I'm just curious. Personally the poses don't bother me and its never been the deciding factor when I'm buying g3s. I only care about the colors and the cutie marks.
The only thing I can think of, is if you make custom ponies. Then I can understand if a pose is a little weird or uninspiring for your own creation. As I have myself, started making a few.
But between 2 ponies that are official hasbro ones, I can't understand where the pose would factor in.

Shed some light for me! Inspire me!
Maybe you'll persuade me enough to include the pose in my decision for the next pony poll!

pose really matters to me...

some poses that have come out, just don't seem "natural" to me, and so the whole pony kinda looks off...some even make ponies seem kinda gimpy, if that's the right word.

the other thing is that I definitely have a preference to ponies that display well. ponies that are standing to the side with their faces turned forward (think shy pose) always display better for me. HOWEVER, that is because I display my ponies on ledge-style shelves on the wall, instead of in rows in a bookcase facing forward...because I like to be able to see all the symbols of every one of my ponies...I only have a few hundred, so that may change when I run out of room though.

another thing that matters to me, is eyes. on G3's I find that their eyes are so big. i feel a bit like G1's are like Barbies, and G3's are like Bratz...brighter colors, more flashy, and really exaggerated features. I have a preference to the smaller eyes of the G1's, so concerning G3's, I am drawn to ponies like Skywishes, whose eyes are partially closed (I like to call them bedroom eyes...haha.) big eyes doesn't make me ever dislike a pony, but I definitely like some ponies better because of their 'bedroom eyes'.

it is also possible that I am just neurotic though.
;)

I don't like any pose that seems unnatural or "painful". In the G1 ponies, that is mainly the pose that Mimic is in. Just doesn't look comfortable or natural (even though I LOVE Mimic's colors). As far as the G3 goes, seeing as I am getting out of G3 (hopefully will have my forsale list up soon), I again don't like any pose that looks unnatural. My favorite poses are the Shy pony pose in G1 (Gusty's pose), and the Fluttershy front facing pose in G3. They make more sense, are very natural looking, and easier to "play" with for my kids.

Yes, the pose of a pony can affect peoples choices..!
Ex. i dont like the collector posed ponies, but i have some, and love Gusty's pose, and i have every single made in that one! ;)
((hugs))

Pose isn't really all that important to me. I love all ponies. Although there are some poses that I like better than others. I love the collector pose. It seems the most realistic to me. Maybe because I remember my Gypsy Lady standing out in the back yard like that all the time. lol. I love Gusty, but I don't like her pose. Her neck looks broken to me. I have been wanting to make a custom of her for a while now in a different pose.

pose

definitely. i hate the so called donkey pose (also called singing pose).

OMG!!!!
Just kidding :labrat:

Pose is as important to me as colors or symbols, sometimes maybe even more important, it has such a huge impact on how the pony looks. I can't really understand how somebody wouldn't see the pose as an important part of the pony's look. I hate Tootsie's pose, I hate it so much that I can't have any ponies in that pose, even if they'd be otherwise really pretty, like Cherries Jubilee. The pose affects on the pony's facial expression, which is very important for me, that's what makes the ponies so adorably cute. (Or horrible, in some cases...)

I think poses are almost the main reason for me to not collect G3's. The poses just look unnatural or otherwise weird, I think there's only one pose (Fluttershy I) that I really like. Most of them look like they have broken necks or have some other really bad issues, like the donkey pose...

Some G3 poses are so ugly that it horrifies me to look at them! :D If the pose is pretty, I don't mind it if the colours are a bit odd or something.. but if the pose looks like an ill giraffe, oh no, I'd never want that pony.

Most G3 pegasus poses look odd to me because I think the wings are so ugly. So when voting in the March Pony Maddness, the earth pony or unicorn needs to be in a really ugly pose, have an awful 3D symbol or have way weird colours for me to choose a pegasus over the other pony.. Just my opinion though, hehe! Not to be taken too seriously.

Anyway, pose means the world to me. :D I much prefer G1 ponies to G3's because I think the old ponies have prettier poses and the new ponies have too big heads. Just among other things of course! But that's a part of why I don't collect G3 ponies. :p

I don't know ladies... sorry!
I'm not convinced. Poses still don't bother me at all.
Oh well. To each his own.
Thanks for the insight though!!

When deciding on a pony here is my checklist.
General appearance (Colors + symbol)
Personality/Characterzation (How well I can make that pony into a character. Wierd I know.)
And then, finally the pose.

Usually the pose makes the pony's personality. For example Fluttershy I's pose makes her look shy, so I would make her personality Innocent, Naive, Young....

Some poses really make me want a pony, for example Sweet Wind's pose is absolutely perfect. It looks like she's going against a warm spring breeze.

Overall, a pose wouldn't deter me too much from getting a pony, but sometimes it is hard to get the right angle on a pose like Tangerine Sunset's.

Oh don't get me wrong....I won't not buy a pony because I don't like the pose. Gusty is a proud member of my herd. I just wished she had been posed differently. Although, I don't go out and buy G3's at the store. Perhaps if I did, then something like pose might make me consider not getting her.

I like poses for one reason, their play-a-bility. Poses that are sitting, those ponies couldn't do much. the Shy pose wasn't bad, but they couldn't really run around with the others.
Then again, we had huge epic quests for our ponies to do growing up...

I'm a bit contrary, poses that I hated a couple of years back I love now.:mfight:

After Hasbro decided to not glue the heads on the ponies, they altered some of the poses/molds -- so many of my favorite poses are out of circulation or have been changed to look "off." It's purely an aesthetic concern, as much as taste in color or a preference for unicorns over pegasi goes. Some people will see it, other won't. I don't think we'd be able to convince you the pose is a deal breaker -- you either see it or you don't.

My big peeves are the Tootsie mold from G1 and the Daisy Paisley/Amazing Grace pose in G3. The ponies just don't "look" right in those poses. The DP pony's face mold is just disgusting, and the body proportions are off... Unlike some other people, I like the more "exotic" broken neck and barfing donkey poses in the G3 line. Just goes to show it's personal taste!
