Hello everyone,

Here's my dilemma: I have been collecting G3's off and on for a while now, but lately they have really started to grow on me and I have added a lot to my collection over the last few months.

I collected them MIB / MOC with the idea that I now had a chance to keep them MIB, unlike my childhood (G1) ponies, and also because my husband, who used to be an avid vintage Star Wars collector, advised me to do so (because of the value).

However, with all the new ones that have been arriving here lately, and the fact that we're to be moving soon to a house that is only slighly larger than our current home, and where I will have to stuff all my ponies in our bedroom, I have started to think about removing them from their packaging.

I will not have the room to display all my G1's and all the MIP G3's, and I don't even want to consider stuffing my G1's in boxes.

So, space-wise I should decide to either a) stop collecting G3's, b) keep collecting them but stash them somewhere in boxes (I don't like this idea) or c) take them out of their packages! And I'm starting to lean towards the latter.

I mean, it would be more practical space-wise and I actually find I enjoy my ponies much more when I can actually touch them!

But I am afraid that I will regret taking them out, especially the ones that have special pakaging (like the Easter ponies) and the more valuable ones.

I also thought of maybe trading my MIP ones with other collectors for the same ponies loose (especially the more valuable ones).

Sooooo... your opinions on this please! I talked to my husband about this, and he insists I should keep them MIP, and stuff them in his parent's attic if I have to... which I think is a bad idea (and they probably will too lol).

What would you do?

I would take most of your G3 ponies out of their boxes. And I would keep only a few with special boxes in their packaging. That would save much space and you can display your G3 ponies. Maybe you can store a few of the ponies with the boxes somewhere else.

I have the same problem with space here. I kept the majority of mine MIB for the first year but then I realized I just wasnt gonna have anywhere to put them so I started removing them from then on. I hope I don't regret opening them. But I don't really plan on parting with my collection so I don't see myself really regretting it ever.

If it's important to you to keep them in boxes, I'd say keep them in boxes even if that means you won't be able to display them. Otherwise, here's what I'd do. I would debox all the non-rares (ie. most of them) and display them loose. But leave the harder to find ones (ie. Snowflake, Rainbowberry, Kimono, Dazzle Surprise, Hula Lula and Sandy Island, etc.) in their packaging along with the ones in special packaging (ie. Easter ponies, Valentine's ponies, Sunshower and Luau, etc.) and display them MIB. This is how my collection is set up. The ponies that are MIB are displayed behind the loose ponies in the shelves if they are in boxes or bags and the ones on cards are tacked onto the wall next to the shelves. Now, I have already run out of room this way, but I can always box up my MIBs and display them again later and they'll still be MIB. If I deboxed them, I'd never have them MIB again. So that's how I'd do it... :pig:

I had a similar problem.

I decided that I will keep the first set, the Euro seasons, the winters, easters and mail orders in their boxes. I've also kept most of my Target exclusives boxed.

The rest are now running free with my G1's and they are much happier. I love to touch them and brush them too.

I've kept all the brushes and accessories in bags marked for each pony so I know who they are for and I have kept all the back cards carefully folded flat. The plastic I threw away.

Part of me thinks that there are so mamy MIB collectors this time round that the MIB ponies are not going to be that rare to find in the future and so the price won't ever be as much for a MIB G1.

Only time will tell I guess.

I would remove the regulars and dissassemble the boxes until they're all flat.. and keep the packaging saved but put away in boxes. That way if you ever miss having them "MIB" you can simulate it by just reparing the broken down boxes and replacing them.

Thanks guys, this is really helpful!

I actually took out again some ponies: Sunny Daze, Wysteria, Minty and Sparkleworks.
They were the first "new" ponies I bougth back in 2003 and I just had to remove them from their packages. After having them on display for a little while I put them back in their boxes and never removed another pony.

But now I freed them again and this feels great! It feelf so nice to touch them, brush their hair and look at them closely (I just love the charms! Almost forgot they were in all the old boxes).

Now I'm glancing around at my other MIP ponies
