My parents are, finally, cleaning out their enormous garage. There are boxes in there that haven't been opened since 1994! They decided I could have this, because it's in perfect working condition (my dad checked). It was my grandmother's. She got it when she retired from teaching home economics. A going away gift. It's the first machine I ever used. One whole two inch seam! I'm so excited that it still works!

Complete with all the accessories, extra bobbins, a cover, and the original case. The case is missing a handle, but it's still neat. Now... I must buy fabric! I'm going to teach my girl to sew!

It is a dream for me. I mostly learned on my mom's which was newer, but she used that machine so much. I can hardly remember times when one sewing machine or another wasn't on. Only while she was cooking. I found out this one was manufactured starting in 1972. What makes it so great to learn on is that it has a speed control. When you turn that on it can only reach a certain slow speed and won't go faster, so you don't need to worry about taking it too fast.

Cool

For about... 6 years now, I've wanted to collect pieces of purple batik cotton in various patterns. Mostly green, turquoise, yellow, and blue as the colors mixed in. I want to make an actual quilt for my bed. I'll patchwork it together, so it's as crazy as I am, then hand quilt the entire thing, throwing in a few flowers here and there. Everything I've made in the past was so purposeful, useful, and not for me. Here's the last project from my old machine. It's been used every year for 8 years. Fully reversible.

I love that families have hand me down items. Having something that belonged to a grandparent is special. <3 Very sweet that your parents found it and gave it to you.

That’s super cute project! I love seeing what people make with sewing. A couple weeks ago, to help ease my anxiety, I sat down and made Fred and Clover new shirts for when the winter.

@Tak that sounds like a really fun quilt! If you ever do make it be sure to show up pics :D
@Skybreeze aww you’re puppies look adorable:ponylove: where did you find Rapunzel fabric??
Thanks! I buy a lot of my patterned stuff from custom fabric sellers, usually from Backstitch Fabric or MK Designs. Both have beautiful patterns but they’re always limited runs and once it’s gone it’s gone. My Tangled has been “retired” for a couple years now and I’m using the last tiny bits of it reluctantly. Also the fabric is usually about $25usd/yard plus shipping so it’s not cheap but I love it always. Fabric delivery day is like pony mail days for me. Lol

Oh yikes, that is pretty expensive haha I’d better stay away XD still it looks great. I also have small bits of fabric in my stash that I’m reluctant to use cause it’s so pretty but I can’t get more

My grandma passed in 1993 if I'm remembering correctly, so it's just been stored and moved 5 times.

It's a little treat bag, too. E never used it because "it's not big enough".
