Scented Twinkle Eyes?

Okay, so last Christmas I bought myself my first regular-sized G1 pony, Galaxy. When she arrived, I noticed not only that she had amazingly bright colors (I had never actually even seen a G1 in real life... Also, I've never seen a picture of a pinkish-purple Galaxy, as most websites refer to her body color. But that's besides the point), but also that she smelled kind of funny, in a nice way. I assumed it was the scent of her previous home, and that it'd probably wear off in time, so I didn't think much of it.
However, nearly 2 months afterward, she still has the scent, and in the meantime, I found a picture of a MOC Galaxy, with a label saying "Includes Galaxy(tm), rainbow comb, ribbon, scented body".

Now, after having heard time and again that the Sundae Best ponies (released a 2-3 years later) were the very first scented ponies, I became rather confused.
I did a little research, and according to what I saw, Fizzy, for example, is scented too, but Gingerbread is not, coming instead with a sticker. From what I can gather, it seems like TEs came with either one or the other (scent or sticker). There are different types of back cards out there, though... And it still sounds kind of weird to me, especially since I had never seen this information anywhere.

Just curious, anyone know anything about this?

Huh? Really? That's neat!

I find that my G1s all have a similar, sweet smell that I attribute to the rubber/plastic formula.

I've never seen Galaxy's box, so I wouldn't know.

Dunno anything official, but my TE Galaxy also has an oddly pleasant smell, different than my other ponies.

i can say as a pony sniffer :)lol:) there is def a difference in how ponies smell. some of them smell lovely and not just normal pony plastic. so i wonder if there are more than just a few twinkle eyes who are scented :)

My Whizzer smells like freshly washed laundry. Maybe in her past somebody used Laundry Detergent on her? xD

In the picture you linked there is a word after "scented body" that is washed out by the camera flash. I think it says "sticker" so she probably came with a sticker that girls could wear that smelled like whatever your Galaxy smells like. The scent would set in to her plastic inthe package and she would smell the same. So, Galaxy herself isn't scented, but she picked up the smell of the sticker she came with. :)

Skeen is right. It definitely says "sticker" at the end there. Either she picked up the scent of the sticker or she could have been washed/stored with something else scented that she picked it up from.

I notice this a lot with some of the really nice NM childhood lots I've gotten. Some ponies with whatever vinyl they're made from smell fragrant. Minty so softs smell like candies to me.

OH- if that person owned any of the scented ponies made(purfume puff, sweetberry, Sunday best etc), and stored them together the scent could be from that too. I take ponies that don't smell so great and pack them in a box with my sugar sweet army, and they end up smelling like her. (if I leave them in long enough the smell stays). :)

Amazing info!!!!!

Funny you guys are on oddly scented ponies, when I got a Baby Noddins finally delivered i was surprised she smelt so sweet.. She came along with a G3 Bowtie, and she smelt like plain ole plastic O: So it definitely ruled out the Seller's Home theory for me. However I find it unlikely they ever had scented Babies?...

(Oh and good, because now I don't feel as weird for being the one to sniff ponies randomly :))

Haha, yeah you're not the only "sniffer". My mom assumed I was, until I got a booth at the toy show one year. The pony, and vintage barbie collectors would look over an item carefully, and snag a sniff before paying. :D

...Huh. So there is. Oh well, my bad! :p
Still, I'm glad to know two things:
1, That I'm not the only one with a random oddly nice scented pony out there, and
2, That I'm not the only one who sniffs ponies (or anything, really) when I get them.

I always attributed that scent to "new pony smell" I wondered if hasbro added something good to the plastic mix to cover up all the yucky smells like the glues they used. I mean after all, the target audience was little girls. I figured it was like all other pony plastic characteristics and was likely to degrade over time. This would leave near mint ponies with more good smell, and abused ponies with less good smell. Point in case, my custom bait bin smells nothing like my collection shelves.

Yep, the complete phrase is "scented body sticker." I guess you were supposed to put the sticker on your arm like a tattoo or something? I don't know, but the stickers were always grape-scented.

Galaxy's smell is just good old fashioned G1 pony smell. :)
