I found a really shabby Lofty at the flea market last year, one of the worst condition ponies I've ever seen. Grunge and grime, horrible flocking, severe hair cut... terrible!
That face begs for pity! I decided to give her the works--cleaning, deflocking, and rehairing.
I remember reading warnings not to soak So Softs in Oxi Clean, because it removes the flocking. "Excellent!" I thought. I popped her head off, removed her hair, and plopped her in an Oxi bath.
Most of the flocking came off when I started to scrub her with an old toothbrush. Scraping her with the edge of a ruler got more of it off. This left her looking like this:
After that, it became a real pain. Rubbing the unpainted areas with Goof Off removed some of the glue residue, but it was a slow, smelly process. Isopropyl alcohol and lots of pressure got the glue off the painted areas. I got the last traces of it off by scrubbing really hard with a Magic Eraser. That Hasbro glue is serious stuff, folks.
Then it was time for new hair! I didn't have that color of yellow on hand. But I started thinking about it, and you know, I never cared much for Lofty. She's too plain! Just yellow, yellow, and MORE yellow. I like yellow, but that's a whole lot of yellow for one pony. With the flocking gone, her symbols were so vibrant, so I took a different approach.
Such a difference! I think I like her better this way.
