I would like everyone's opinion on this. Do you sell more ponies on the Trading Post or on Ebay? Do you make more money on the Trading Post or on Ebay. Would love to hear the thoughts of others.

If you are new to either site, I would suggest selling lower value items first to build feedback. :) High-end stuff sells faster and for more money when a seller has more extensive great FB. Often with ebay, things sell for higher prices when worldwide shipping is offered also (a lot of ponies common in the US/Canada were not released overseas). But that comes with it's own risks.

I enjoyed ebay when I used to sell there. Sometimes listings went for the opening bid, or close to it (well below value) and other-times ponies only worth $4-5 would end over $30 with a massive bidding war. This was years ago, when eBay's policies were slanted in favor of sellers and not many "Non paying bidders" were around. (I sold hundreds of items and didn't file a single non-payment case)

I prefer selling here. I only have to deal with PayPal's fee and even though I no longer get crazy overvalue amounts with bidding wars, the quality of buyers here have been far superior. Friendly, patient and easy to communicate with. The key to ease of selling on the forums is being clear and upfront with how you would like payment, holds and communication to happen and of course providing honest descriptions, clear photographs and prompt shipping (packing carefully) after payment is received. :)

You can potentially make more money on eBay but then you have to deal with their fees and paypal fees. It's sometimes less hassle as you don't have to answer a bunch of PMs or anything like that.

I've had good luck and bad luck on eBay as a seller. The market just seems to fluctuate so much that you never really know what the item will end up selling for. At least on the TP or Arena, you have more control over final selling price if you have the patience to wait a little longer.

I actually joined etsy and like it MUCH better than eBay. Any way you sell, it's time consuming, though!

I like to sell on here, but barely anybodies biting on my stuff so I might try ebay, although I only have experience buying on there, not selling. I like to give everyone a chance to buy my ponies first, then try an alternative after.

So far, I've only tried selling on the TP. If I ever need to sell things more quickly, I will probably try eBay but... I am not in that situation so I stick to selling here. I like the people here and I like helping them find things that they don't have.

Yes, this is what I see. On the Arena I couldn't keep stuff listed and my customer base was very large. I was deployed to Afghanistan for a year and came home and the arena was disbanded. I lost all of the feedback I had built up. Since I look new here eventhough I been in the MLP community for a long time have not had very many bites. BUT, on Ebay my ponies go for more than I hope for! I experienced something really sad on Ebay....Someone bought one of my G1 pony lots(paid $$$ for it) and told me it was for their kids to play with....Nooooooooooooooo. I like to see collectors have first bite before they go on Ebay. But hate hate hate Ebay's seller limits.

Hunnibun, I notice we're in the same province!
Sales for me are a lot busier/super busy when I have large amounts of ponies up for sale, as most of my buyers buy multiples so the higher Canadian shipping costs are worthwhile. :) When I'm down to a few things left, sales will die down again die down until I add a bunch more. I also encourage the purchase of multiples buy discounting larger lots, or including a bonus, as it equals less work for me.

Claricesponies, you should still be able to find your feedback on the old site if you remember your old username. It's still up, archived I think.

Claricesponies has always been my username on both the arena and on here. Yes, I can log in and view it but as far as I know it cannot be tranfered over to the TP.

You cannot transfer it here but you could link people to it as reference.

I do have lots of ponies for sale, I've sold a bunch but I still have a ton left and they've been sitting around for a while now waiting for new homes. I used to want to sell one by one but now I'll sell them in groups for a decent price and trade them for G1's (my G3's).

I've sold a few things on here, but I do sell a few things on ebay. I'm pretty much a noob on ebay. I only sell during free listing weeks, and I mostly sell random non-toy items like decorations, knick-knacks, housewares.

claricesponies, you do know that the Arena just moved don't you? The archived site automatically redirects after a few minutes. I believe your old log in should work; so, you should still be able to sell there. There also should be no problems just linking people to your old feedback until you get enough built up here.

I avoid selling on eBay - too many fees plus I don't like the way they treat their sellers. I mostly sell here and on the Arena. The Arena is more active; so, I usually have more sales there, but I still sell quite a bit here to people who don't have Arena accounts (or at least see my ads here first).

why I buy ponies on MLPTP over eBay

I've never sold a pony. All my extras I trade here! I like to buy here more than ebay as well because:

1. The people are nice. They are all TPers, who post and talk here like me. I feel like they are all close friends and family, because I've been on the TP since I was a kid, it was born when I was in 1996. Some even have known me on my old account from childhood! They trust me and I trust them.

2. The prices are reasonable. Ebay is a constant battle zone, and everyone is fighting for a profit. If it's a vintage pony, it has to be marked up. People on eBay are obsessed with overpricing items just because they're FREAKING VINTAGE regardless of the condition or rarity of the item. I'm not saying this is every seller on ebay, but it's mainly the non-collectors who think they all have something pure gold (and it's really 5 fakies and 2 baity G1s) . On the TP, collectors are just selling to collectors. It's like selling to friends, and they don't do it for a fortune, they do it for more space and a couple bucks.

3. Communicating is easy and beneficial. PMing back and forth about prices, bartering, and holding ponies are some of the benefits I love about MLPTP. When I PM someone about a pony, they almost always are happy to negotiate prices, hold items, and discuss shipping, condition, ect. EightiesOtaku was my first MLPTP seller. I bought a lot of ponies from her (like 6 or 7) for $25. She was kind enough to list them on Etsy for me (which she had to create an account to do) because my Mother was skeptical about purchasing something directly from a website with a stranger. She kindly held the ponies for me and listed them all as a lot of ponies reserved for Pinkie. Most sellers would turn me down because I'm a teenager, but she delt with me just like any other buyer, and went the extra mile to ensure my Mother trusted her to allow me to buy them.

4. The sellers know what they're selling. (And if they don't, everyone always helps price check and provide info for an unidentified pony) So there's none of that "vintage pony lot" with 5 fakies and 1 G1 pony you REALLY WANT overpriced because of all the fakied nonsense. Everything is (as I said) reasonable.

OMG!! I Love You........You are the first person to tell me it is alive!!!!

:yay:"It's alive, It's alive"

I'm glad I could help you find it again. :D I guess the old server pretty much just fell apart and the site had to move at the beginning of this year. There used to be an announcement on the archived home page but I guess now they've removed it and just left the redirect active (which only works if you spend more than a couple of minutes on the same page).

I don't always sell ponies online....but when I do.....it's on the TP.

Stay pony my friends.

Sorry......I couldn't resist. lol

I don't sell often. When I do, I try to offer them here first. If I get no bites, then I put them on ebay. I do tend to buy on ebay, just because you can happen on a really good deal sometimes. (My all time best deal was a lovely Mimic for $8 total!!! Alas, I sold her... along with about 75% of my collection) I've only just joined the Arena, and only sold one custom there... I don't feel as 'at home' there as I do here, even though the TP isn't as busy as it once was. (Where IS everybody???) Anyway, so yeah...

That's how I feel too. To me, The Arena is TOO busy in a way... it's hard to keep track of people or what's going on! Not that they aren't friendly, it's just not quite as homey there.
