Hi everyone!

We have been discussing all of the input gathered over the past year of new features and changes you have suggested we implement here at the MLPTP. And that's exactly what we're working on now!

What to expect:
  • Some lesser-used subforums will be combined with existing subforums to save space
  • Some new subforums will be on the way
  • Some things will be reorganized in order to optimize user-friendliness
  • The Tutorials & FAQ will continue to be added to and updated

Keep an eye on this thread for changes as they are made, and feel free to continue to add suggestions. :)

12/13/22:
  • The Variant Valley subforum has been retired, and all content has been marked with a new

prefix and merged into MLP Discussion. To see all content with the Nirvana prefix, simply click on the prefix itself.

  • The Ebay Auctions subforum has been merged with the Want to Sell subforum. Ebay listings can now be marked with an

    prefix.

  • The MLPTP Tutorials & FAQ has been moved to a more accessible location beneath MLP Discussion on the main page.

12/14/22:
  • The Restoration subforum is now live! Please continue to PM me links to any threads you find in other areas that now belong in this new section. Huge thanks to @DracoKat and @StormMaeker for getting us started! <3

Restorations forums please
On the way ;)

What makes this addition the most difficult is that we will ideally need to pull existing threads from other subforums in order to move them to the new area, and that will involve a lot of searching.

If anyone would like to help with this, please feel free to skim through subforums such as MLP Discussion, Customs, and Show & Tell, and pm me a list of links to threads involving restorations so that I can use them to populate the new subforum.

Edit to add: No need to go searching any further back than 2018 or so unless that's something you really want to do. Just reporting as you randomly come across any threads that now belong in the Restoration forum is more than enough. <3

I want a photo gallery like the one we used to have on here
Thank you for the suggestion, mlpc, but unfortunately that will not be possible for several reasons:

The entire forum had to be completely reformatted due to not being updated by the previous owner for more than a decade, and the old, outdated gallery system was not compatible with the updated forum software. Aside the yearly cost of that kind of new software being pricey, the overall size (and therefore memory usage) of photos has gone up enormously in the past 10 years, and hosting images here is not at all as simple or easy as it used to be. The more modern-sized images we were to host on here, the more of our site memory and space it would take up, and our hosting costs would continue to rise exponentially in this way. There is not currently a software feature available that can auto-resize image uploads, but the software we use is always evolving.

I know this is frustrating, especially given that sites like Photobucket are no longer free, but because technology and image resolution and size have come so far since we were last able to implement this feature many years ago, I'm afraid it isn't something that will be possible at this time.

It makes sense to me that storage cost would pile up with a feature like that, though it does make me wonder how the site copes with all the images we add to our posts right now? Should we try to add fewer images? Do they automatically delete themselves after they are too old?

If the software can't auto-resize, can it simply reject images over a certain size limit? I wouldn't be offended by that, myself, especially not if it helps keep the site more sustainable.

Would it be better for the site if we link images instead of uploading them here? I had already been wondering this.

... aaannnd this is why i moved all my merch wishlist images offsite :D also because i too noticed certain images just deleted themselves after a while. so glad i did that

We are doing just fine with things as they have been since I fully overhauled and updated the software in 2019 :) There is currently an image size limit in place and it will reject images that are too large. I've been working on finding a suitable auto-resize software, but that's much more complicated than it sounds. ;)

I am not aware of the site deleting old images.

Oh I would like to know this too.

There's no need to move anything offsite, that is a choice left completely up to you guys :) The only benefit may be a tiny bit faster loading time, but moving all images offsite is not necessary.

I am not aware of the site deleting old images, can you tell me where and when you noticed this?

@MustBeJewel I sent you a PM with a slew of restoration topics that I feel may be useful
Thank you, @DracoKat! Now we can get started! :D

Is there a limit to what year these threads could be? Say there was a thread from at least 2014, would that still be moved?

There should be, seeing how far back our history goes ;) For simplicity's sake, let's just say 2018 and onward for now, and if you happen to randomly come across any threads that belong in the new forum, either hit the Report button or just pm me. ;)

I think I bookmarked some earlier this month that could go there so I’ll have a look!

I know @Coveredbydust did a bunch of amazing restoration threads, could they be moved too?

Idk what 'gallery' was, but I wanted to ask if giving user a personal, small "upload space" is possible.

I am using a diffirent engine-based forum that allows you to upload a file to your space and then just attach it over and over if necessary. That prevents repeat uploads.

But other Xenoforo forum I also am on...admin told me it's hard to do with it once.
