I just wanted to scribble this down as I am cleaning a collection I recently received from Craigslist.

I recently came across a "for sale" on Craigslists and jumped on it and met with the lady to pay at her home. She was probably about my age with children just like me. She was given her old collection from her Dad. She didn't seem to have a connection to them anymore and was very busy with something in her life and just wanted them gone. Her kids were going through the box and telling me about them. I asked her if she was sure she wanted to sell them since her kids were interested. She said no, they had enough toys. So I paid and I was off in excitement.

Now that I finally have time to spend with this little herd and clean them, I am noticing how well she took care of them. I am thinking of her as a girl and how these were part of her childhood when she didn't have the worries of adulthood and the peace ponies give me. I wish she loved them like I do now. I wish she gave them to her daughter who really seemed to love them.

I had this love as a child for mine and I would get lost in that world, then I turned into a teen and sold all mine. I still wonder who out there has my ponies, probably some of you.

I am cleaning these ponies with a little more care today in honor of that girls/ladys childhood.

I made sure to tell her that I will take great care of them and she smiled. That's all. :flutter2:

"... And she smiled."

My thoughts exactly upon reading this. :)

This was exactly what I thought. What a beautiful sentiment. I think for most of us these ponies are not just toys but were a cherished part of our childhoods and hard to part with. I think it is wonderful how much care you are putting into this herd and the past it represents :smilepony:

That is such a sweet story. I always wish I could somehow track down the first owners of my ponies just to let them know they've found a good home.

Out of curiosity, Mirakat, how big was the collection you received?

Not a big one, around 20. Most I didn't have yet.

in a few years she will be a new member here looking to buy them back.

Aww that's such a bittersweet story. I'm glad they went to a good home! And maybe her daughter will join the site someday and try to find them again. Ah, the circle of MLP life...

Aaaw, that's a nice story. I often wonder where my ponies came from. Most of them seem pretty well loved though c:

does any one here have kids?
and if so do you let them play with your collection?
or have designated ponies that aren't so nice to display??
most of my child hood toys where given away so i have been trying to find some of them now (apart from teddy ruxspin and my all time favourite teddy bear who means more to me than any thing else i own ) I am not sure why the lady you got the ponies off didn't give them to her daughter if she didn't want them any more?

My daughter who is 8 collects G1's too and has a lot of the duplicates I have. I don't give her perfect ones due to her age. I don't let my children play with my collection and it is behind glass.

There's my sister, and myself. I play with my G1's myself, and I'm very careful like I was with my G3's when I was little. I mean, they are toys. If I play with them and my sister, I take my favourites and make sure she's careful! Sometimes it helps me notice marks that I wouldn't have noticed before X3 normally they sit in their cabinet and on their shelves.

I bought a little girls collection this weekend, she was a teen who'd outgrown her ponies. Her mom asked if I was buying for my daughter or were they for me? I said they were for me and that I collected them, she seemed really impressed!! And then admitted to collecting TY beanie babies herself :)

The ponies I bought were really well looked after, nicely kept and only needed a brush over!

I don't have any children myself, but I have a 15 year old step daughter who is more into G4, but not as a collector, she watches the FiM series and has a couple of plushies etc but she's not all that into the toy line - though she does squee with me when I get new ponies :D

My goddaughter loves her ponies. She is 5 and her face just lights up when she gets one!! Its truly wonderful to watch her open them up, then she starts brushing their hair! She was delighted when I showed her how to curl Pinkie Pie's hair with straws :D I cannot wait until she opens her Christmas presents this year.....I have bought her a load of older release singles and Sunset Shimmer (since she has the mane 6) and she will also be getting the wedding castle!! I really cannot wait :D

That's an interesting story. I had a similar experience this summer: I recently came across a collection at a garage sale. The woman was a little older than me, in her 30s and was selling her entire collection, all G1s that she had as a kid. When I expressed interest in buying them, she gave me a price and told me that her young daughter was going to be really sad that she sold them (and that she was sleeping and didn't know they were having a garage sale). She also mentioned that one of the reasons her daughter liked playing with them is because she felt they were special because her mother had them when she was young. I couldn't help thinking about how I would feel, as a young girl, if my mother had let me play with her cherished ponies and then I woke up one morning to find they were all gone. I remember asking her (like you did) if she was sure she wanted to sell them and she said absolutely, because she didn't have the space and didn't want them anymore. It's crazy because I never find ponies at garage sales and to find an entire collection was an amazing find, but it was bittersweet because I kept thinking about that young girl and how she would probably be upset later on. I bet she will also grow up to be a collector.

Sort of on the same note, but it's interesting to think how some ponies travel around so much, from person to person. I bet if they could talk they would have some stories to tell :)

I have most of my childhood ponies. :)

I love your story, too!

Only about 6 of my ponies survied the great pony purge dne by my mother. Luckily Cha Cha cha the llama was one of them:satisfied:

I have some of my childhood Ponies, and am saving them for my future daughter (they're WELL played-with, lol), and I have a bunch from my collection I didn't sell set aside for her. My husband and I are looking forward to having kids, just whenever God decides to give them to us, lol.

If we never have a daughter or granddaughter, I have nieces and a great niece on the way, so they'll eventually find a good home. :)

I went through a year when I decided I was going to be grown up and get rid of all my stuff. Fortunately I kept all my ponies! However I gave away my beloved baby born that peed when you fed her water... I thought that was amazing. I regret it so much, rather painful to think about.

At least they cared enough to sell them to someone who'll love them :) I know some people who just throw old toys in the rubbish! :(
