Grrrr... does it drive anyone else insane when you go onto Ebay or other bid sites and sellers have Peachy, or some super common G3 listed as "Super rare" or "Hard to find"?

I know it's spiteful (and I would never actually do it, I promise!), but sometimes I wish I could post a question on the page and say:
Are you aware this is not at all rare? As a matter of fact, I have four of them I can't get rid of!

 I know I'm ranting, but it just bugs me. If someone is not a knowledgeable collector, I understand, but if you are *going* to claim something is rare and htf you should do your homework!

I sooo totally know what you mean! tThere once was an auction with 4 common babies, and that person asked $45 (or something) for them. So I asked why they were so expensive, and he/she responded: "They are very rare, these are original ponies from the 80's.". So I anwered that those ponies weren't worth that much, and so she got mad at me, cause I was just a dumb nosy person who didn't know anything about ponies XD

Yes and no, it doesn't really bug me personally because I know my ponies and I know what to look for and what to avoid... but yes, it does bug me when I think about people who are just starting out and who may not know where to look for accurate information and value of ponies. On behalf of those people, I have also many a time considered leaving a question/comment on the auction, saying that it's definately not rare. I never have though.

What's EVEN worse in my humble opinion, is when people clearly have taken the time to look up 'plastic toy ponies', read about My Little Pony and THEN are trying to sell a bunch of miserable fakies as "Super rare vintage My Little Ponies". Grrr!

lol just cause they're G1/from the 80's doesn't make them rare.
it's those types of sellers who feel pretty pleased with themselves because they can tell the difference between a G3 and a G1

Haha! That would drive me even more insane- if a seller acted like I didn't know what I was talking about!

I do constantly buy stuff from a seller who practices that. I'm a fairly new collector, so the desperation to own something I "rarely see" does give these people what they want I guess?

Before I joined this forum, I was so sure every pony has a pricetag of at least 5USD or something. XD

I'm not too bothered about it, but I'm a little concerned that the costs of ponies will go up because of them.

I was looking at Littlest Pet Shop pets on eBay the other day and I noticed that just about every single listing had either *RARE* or Hard To Find in the title. It's so confusing because I'm trying to make a wish list and get some kind of idea of what they go for, but it seems every single one is being listed as RARE so I have no way of telling which ones are actually rare and which ones are just the sellers trying to get more money for their sales. I think eBay should ban use of the word "rare".

A couple of ebay things that irk me:

-When people count McD ponies as real ponies in a lot and raise the price of a lot so it's double or triple what it's worth when you factor out the McD ponies. I've seen a couple rather sneaky people that have used pony hair to conveniently hide the plastic tails of McDs.

-There are a couple of sellers that label all their stock as rare and htf.

-There are sometimes occasions that make me wonder why people even bother to pay ebay fees and list something if they are going to ask such a high price. 00)

LPS on ebay are even worse than ponies now though:nodno: I get such a headache browsing ebay these days.

I do find it annoying... the worst is when someone actually emails them and says something like that "Hey, um, just letting you know this is a rather common pony not worth more than $1.00" and they still keep the price up or answer something like "Thanks but this is HTF" ... I've seen that in auctions Q&A before and it cracks me up.

yeah i feel bad for people who end up paying over the ods for 'rare' or 'htf' ponies, also when people try to sell really bashed up scabby baits for £££ just cuz there MLP....

I find is very funny when some people even mark very common G3's as rare and/or expect big bucks for them. WHAT are people thinking?
I'm sorry for those who have been victomized. It gets very frustrating when you see a pony you really and the price is outrageous.:cussing:

That's when you post a pic of someone's unsold army of these HTF ponies (if only you could LOL--but then someone would probably claim it was only CGI ROFL).

I grit my teeth when someone advertises McD's as "lot of [#] MLP including cute babies". They're *cute* and all... but the rest... snort.

oh yes those lots where they could McPonys as single ponys-tht's just bad. whenever i'm looking at lots and counting the ponys i count 2 McD as 1.

these people only put the rare and htf just to catch ghe people who don't know anything. it's sad, but it happens with anything on eBay really. from ponys to beanies to comics and tcgs

:reaper: Kat :reaper:

honestly I think the keyword here is do your homework if your searching for something collectible. Both parties sellers and buyers its up to know the value of items;. Sadly I feel sorry for those victimized because they didn't know that item really wasn't "rare"

I don't agree with the term "victimized." They wanted the item and then bought it. The price seemed reasonable enough at the time. Just because you find ponies cheaper elsewhere doesn't mean you are a victim of anything but a lack of patience. Buyer's remorse is not the fault of the seller. No one forced anyone to buy anything.

And frankly, it's incredibly frustrating that a 20-30 year old toy could be valued at just $1.
There is a collectible toy store not too far away that buys them for $1 each, and I am always tempted to just sell the rest of the 80 or so I have to them in one big lot, rather than putting in the time and effort to sell them here or on eBay and constantly get requests to lower my prices. I'm pretty sure that by trying to get these ponies to collectors I know and care about, I am losing money between packing materials, trips to the post office, and photo/listing time.

I've seen a few sellers who do this with EVERY pony they list! So crazy. At the same time, I know what I'm buying, I know it's not rare in the larger scheme of things, but there aren't many ponies to find around here, so eBay and you guys are my only options. I'm pretty much just buying lots on eBay- I end up with doubles, but it works out to closer to 2 or 3 dollars a pony rather than the 10-15 some people want for them individually.

I wonder what I'd do at a yeard sale if someone had a ton of ponies and wanted $10 for each of them because "that's what they go for on eBay". It's so rare to find them at a yard sale here (I've never found one)... would I be able to walk away if they wouldn't come down in price? I hope so!

I always laugh when I see stuff like that.
Although it can get annoying at times, like the rare
Occasion when my fiance is pony shopping for me
On ebay and I have to convince him that g1 sundance
Isn't "SUPER RARE!!". Usually I just give up and let him
Think he found something good :) (don't worry,
I don't let him spend a lot!)

I have to agree that it's annoying. If a seller is unsure whether something is truly rare then they should take the time to do a little research either that or not post items as rare or htf. And what is with the shipping prices? So many times do I see a pony for $1-$5 and the shipping is double the price. Why not post the price a bit higher and charge a normal shipping price? It does not cost $6-$10 to ship one or two ponies, even if you factor in the amount for shipping supplies.
