Do you ever look at your secondhand ponies and wonder where they've been? Who they used to belong to, or who the first child to love them was? Do you ever wonder how they got those permanent ink marks, who gave them those haircuts, or what the initials under their hooves stand for? How and why they were separated from their past owners? Do you think those people would be happy knowing where their ponies are now?

And if you've ever purchased an entire collection from an original owner, especially if the transaction was face to face, do you ever feel compelled to keep them together and not trade them out or upgrade them? To not customize them, no matter how baity? Even to send the previous owner photographs if you've cleaned them up nicely, restored them or displayed them prominently?

Cool topic! I always wonder where my ponies have been and who loved them before me (or did love them) I always imagine ones in great condition didn't get much play, or a newer generation pony already in thrift stores wasn't very much loved. I've never bought someone's entire collection before, so I am not sure how I would feel about it. I don't think I would put too much weight on it though, because the majority of my ponies are from my own childhood.

I do! Sometimes It's really fun to make up stories and imagine what their previous owners looked like and how they played with them. :satisfied:

I also have trouble splitting them up and getting rid of doubles because I want to keep them together. it's like they would be sad if they were separated.

There should be quite a few ponies labeled EN floating around out there after I regrettably sold my original collection :(

I can't say I've ever wondered about that per se, but every time I get new ponies I do tend to think "You poor guys, someone didn't want you anymore, but now you're here and I will love you and keep you safe and take care of you forever and ever!" :D I guess I shouldn't assume the worst, that they were unwanted in the end - hence sold, but it makes me wanna take all the more care of them imagening that XD

Oh I wonder about their past lives all the time. I especially wonder where all my childhood ponies went when I donated them and then I feel guilty lol.

Sometimes yes! And I always wonder why anyone would like to sell they lovely ponies (well good for me ;) because I can have more!) I would really want to hear all of my ponies stories.. such a shame they won't speak -.- They just like to talk each other... ;)

I always wonder where my ponies come from. If a pony has her ear pierced or a name written on the bottom of her hoof it makes me think if they were loved enough to add a little piece of themselves to the pony, why get rid of it? I can never understand why someone would give a pony up.

I also wonder why I find old ponies in thrift shops. I mean it's 2014, why now am I finding ponies from 30 years ago? Did someone just find them in attic and donate them or have they gone to home to home before being donated?

Personally I don't really like customizing the ponies that I find. Even if they have a flaw they're still beautiful to me. I have a Baby Gusty with thick red highlighter around her lips. She looks like the Joker :lolpony: I'm not going to change her. Someone thought it was a good idea to give her lipstick and now it's part of her personality.

I have a Sugarberry who is covered in little pink/red marks all over her legs and belly. I'm completely convinced that some little girl took her strawberry picking one day and she got stained. The thought makes me smile every time I look at her.

Yeah. I read that story. That old lady is a true *bleep* by stealing her collection. I hope she gets it back though

By the way, I look for signs of care in old ponies, like in a Wind Whistler I got from @Ology .
She had a spot in the shape of a heart in one of her wings. I have taken care of her ever since. And by care, I mean to tuck her in my bag and to brush her mane... Daily XD

Funny thing wind whistler and any pony from the adoption thread I have are from a local vintage toy store. I picked them up when a lady sold like 25 ponies to the guy he gave me a good price on as many as I could buy and I took them home clean them the best I could and the set out to find new homes for them.

I just have a large heard myself. I got a G1 Starshine off ebay a long time ago she looked so white and nice then I get her and her Display side is white and all but her other side looks like she got a tan. I have no idea how that happen but I did not raise a fuss on ebay she was cheap (now I know why). So the joke is she just fell asleep in the sun and did not turn over to complete her tan lol.

Fairly often, yes. :] I like to imagine that they had very exciting, whirlwind childhoods with children who loved them, and so coming to my collection is sort of a peaceful retirement for them. I do sometimes worry about ponies I find with initials under their hooves, that maybe 'their child' is still out there looking for them, somewhere. I know it's unlikely, but still.

I think about that too. However if ponies could talk I think they would tell very sad stories. I could own one of my childhood ponies and not even know it or I may have traded it off. I really don't have a clue how many times they been around the world either. :(

If they have been around the world and could talk, they would have lots of awesome stories to tell ya!

I often pine for my stolen collection, especially my sweet, sweet Minty and hope desperately that they are having good lives, I would hate to think they ended up getting trashed after I'd loved them so. I quite often will leave a coloured up or mohawked Pony as is, just because I think it gives them a certain charm. Those beat up, baity Ponies have led adventurous lives, and could regale us with fabulous tales should they so decide, I'm certain of it.

I like to give them backstories too. They need history.

A old but good set of stories you should hear my covert operation when my sister " Out grew her MLP she never had many" and the sneaky things done to get them out of the good will bag alone with some stuff animals and a few Barbie's. It was interesting and when my mom found out many many years later she was like I wondered why you had more stuff in your room.
