Like I wrote in a different thread, I have been thinking a bit about storage options for the MLP collection.
Have been lurking around for different types of furniture, with ok looks, big storage space with both several shelves and drawers, hoping to be able to fit an entire collection with playsets/accessories and all at the same place.
Is there something else you should think of when it comes to storage?

Would be fun to see/hear how you store your collections! :) Do you have them all for display, all tucked away or a combination? Was it a quick-fix solution or did you plan for it?

I would suggest some way to make sure any moisture stays out of the storage. In the house is best, I would be careful about garages. And if you can find some of those little kits that suck up the moisture (you usually have to change them out once every few months, I think) those are good to have.

I have mine under my bed in a plastic tub. I display a few on my desk and swap them out periodically so they all have a chance to get out on my desk to be admired:) When we can afford to buy our own place, I'm hoping to have a shelf for all of them.

Very true about moisture. Dampness can ruin them. And super hot conditions like here in TX or NM and Arizona.

I keep my in all sorts of places. Any crevice I can cram 'em really. Let's see, my specialest of the special are on a shelf. My specialest babies and their caretakers and mommies are on the floor in Ponyville, where they live to trip me at night. Others are in tubs, boxes, even a big brown grocery bag. I dunno what I'll do to get them all displayed.

Sounds clever to rotate the display ponies! :)
Good advice with the moist-collector! (I know what you mean, I am having trouble finding moist-free storage for the horses tack.)
Climate indoors in my appartment is very good, but maybe they need to be moved in the future.

I got them a cheap wardrobe in nylon (like 25 dollars!) that is open on one side with shelves and with wheels so ju can just turn it against a wall if you do not want it open. We haven´t put it together yet since they are pretty tricky, so after the first one (got one to store clothes aswell) we lost motivation! LoL
But now when I see the piles of stuff everywhere in the living room, I wish they were already tucked away.

For pure storage I agree with the others about keeping them away from damp and humid places. Fortunatly Sweden is cold like 80% of the year XD
When I couldn't display my collection I kept them in Little plastic baggies (so they wouldn't rubb against eachother, discolouring eachother etc.) and then they were put in plastic tubs under my bed. Like @Marble Dragon said, it's best to try and keep them in the house :)

Nowdays I have a room dedicated to ponies and most of them reside in Billy bookcases from Ikea which are excellent for displaying them if that's the kinda storrage we're talking about ;)

I do have a pony room in the house. It's actually a whole corner in the basement, right beside my husband's office. He built shelves all around for me with the right spaces for all the play sets, smaller boxes, bigger boxes, deeper shelfs to display everything. He got me a dehumidifier (it can be very humid in summer) and a big crafting table in the middle.
I have baskets underneath the shelfs for accessories and other things. The pony paradise! I can spend hours there.
Only my kids are sometimes ashamed when their friends ask about my pony museum. I think it's cool.

Man I wish my mom had a pony museum! I'll totally be embarrassing my kids someday.

I love the idea of a pony museum! :D and the crafting space close to the ponies!

So you sort of have a pony museum aswell! ;)
Do you think it works well with the regular bookshelves (that they are open) or does it get dusty or perhaps sun bleeched?
I mean - would you have prefered a different solution or is it already the perfect solution in your opinion? :)

I don't have so many yet, so I just keep them beside my bed
I have a bookshelf (somewhat smaller than the Billy bookcase from Ikea) that will be perfect to store MLP in when I have more of them

I actually bought the glass doors that belongs to the Billy bookcases to protect the ponies from dust :)
That being said I ended up having to buy a few other, smaller bookcases and tables for little, mini extra display space :p And those are wide open. Yet I haven't had too much issues woth dust. Maybe because Im there re-arranging all the time XD

I feel that the furniture I've gotten for my ponies are perfect :) Only problem is that the collection soon will outgrow the room XD But that's another story :p

Ponies are the best at sneaking into houses;D That means you need bigger room and the again bigger room and before you know it a new house just for your ponies ;)

Glad to hear you guys are happy with the bookcase-solution! :)
I am one of those people who wants to be able to hide stuff away. Not always in the mood to look at ponies (think it is a bit feng shui- if it temporarily feels bad that I do not have time for a planned MLP-project, or perhaps have wasted more money on it than I should, it feels good to be able to hide it away! Not have to be reminded all day long. LoL )
But that would still be possible with a room dedicated to it. If the room has a door!

I wonder if anyone has a "walk-in-MLP-closet"? ;)

I would definitly not mind a pony house instead of a pony room :D Now if only I could win the lottery...

If you win the lottery - would you have Hasbro build the house? ;)

Hmm... with the poor quality they've made many G4's in I'm not too sure. Missmatched walls, glue running down every corner... Yeeh  But they could help me decorate it :D

Hmm, yeah, maybe it was not such a good idea! LoL
Guess your current place is already decorated by Hasbro!

I would like to buy a cabinet for my ponies, and I'd love those Billy bookcases, but they don't sell Ikea furniture in South Africa. I'd have to have one custom made. It would be expensive to put in glass doors, though, so I need to decide if I'd be happy with normal wooden doors. It would keep my collection more pristine that way, and my room would look tidier (and less like a toy store), but then I'd have to open the doors every time I wanted to look at them. At the moment, half of my collection is in boxes, so I never get to see them anyway unless I go looking for them, but I do like being able to see the few that are out in the open. It would probably be a good compromise either way, because then I could invite people over and not have to explain my collection to them if I don't want to, and opening a cupboard is a lot easier than digging ponies out of their boxes every time I miss them. I'd be able to lock the doors for security purposes, and I could even decorate the insides with back cards, stickers, artwork, etc. I think perhaps I'd be okay with that.

A walk-in pony closet does sound incredibly awesome, though. :p

I think I would prefer wooden doors for the reason you mentioned, that I would not have to see them all the time (if it was a separate room or closet it is one thing, but if it is in a shared living room). And I also sort of dislike the idea about having to open/close the doors.
So I fell in love with a sideboard for the office (from IKEA, of course! :p) with a large slide-door, you just pull it to the side. Somehow it feels easier with slide-doors. They are not as much in the way, especially if you would want several sections open at the same time (depending on how they are designed of course- perhaps it would be best with one big door that you slide up and it stays up?)
Wonder if it made any sense? I mean if it would come to that point that you want to custom-order a furniture, you might want to think a step further to something really suitable! :)
