So I've been doing some pony clean up lately and wanna show off the results. Just click the piccies to see bigger ones on my photobucket. Also most of them are for sale in my sale post (see siggy for link) save the G2's and the Daddy.

First is some G3's that my mom got for me awhile ago, they've been in need of a little TLC.

Citrus Sweetheart, she had a lot of marks and her hair was a tangle. But aside from the one mark by her eye the rest mostly came off and her hair was tamed.

Sunny daze, her hair was just messy, a quick bath, shampoo and condition fixed that.

Beebop, messy hair. Her hair ended up nice but the tinsel is still very crinkled.

Cotton candy, her hair wasn't even too messy, it just looks that way. It curled right back up with a wash.

Butterscotch, again messy hair and a few spots. The tinsel is still a tad crinkled but otherwise she's lovely.

Forsythia, she just needed a good combing and I washed her spots. (ignore the file name on her, I got is mixed up when I saved to my computer XP )

With them I did a Happy Glow and a couple G2's as well. They were all in need of a styling.

I got a little carried away with Happy's mane but hopefully the curls will loosen with time.

Lastly in this bunch was this poor Fairy Tale bird. I've had her for a few years now like that and she has been waiting a long time for a styling. I'm really impressed with how she turned out, I thought it would be impossible to get through her hair.

Then on a whim I bought this lot from Ebay.

Picture from the auction.

Opened up!

They were in a sad state. The daddy had bad rust issues, his insides are dark because of the rust. Eww. And poor sunny bunch had what I can only guess was oatmeal in her hair and on her face when she arrived. Why people can't take a little time to clean things before listing them..... sigh. Anywho, I got a few during piccies too this time

Bath time!! I use hand soap, a gentle kind and baking soda for washing bodies. Daddy got a good inside scrub as well with cotton balls to get all the rust out.

Here the manes get a conditioner treatment. I use a type meant for extensions and weaves, it seems to work well. Better then regular because it's made for fake hair I think.

And the tails soak in a rust treatment.

Unfortunately Daddy's tail was a loss. I tried to straighten it out but every time I though I had is straight, after awhile it would just kink-up again. Luckily I had a replacement in the right color. It just had something extra

Personally I kinda like it with the tinsel, but I'll probably remove it eventually so he's accurate.

Final products!

He's got a bit of dinge around each little heart because I didn't want to rub any off, but otherwise he's gorgeous!

She has one spot on her flank that didn't come off completely but she turned out lovely as well.

Sadly Firefly is missing a tail and I don't have a replacement like I did for Daddy. She also had some stubborn spots on her leg that wouldn't come of totally. But her symbols are some of the best I've seen on a Firefly.

This is what I really enjoy about collecting I think, taking well loved ponies and making them shiny again.

They cleaned up SO well! It looks like an official photoshoot!

Do you have any tips/share your procedure on how to clean up the G3s? :)

Those ponies look so adorable. You did a great job cleaning them up

Extreme makeover - Pony addition! One of my favorite type of posts are before and after shots. Looks like you had a fun time and they look fantastic. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks everyone! I had forgotten how much I really enjoyed doing a big pony clean up! Even something as simple as styling the hair makes me so happy. Getting them to look so nice!!

For the G3's, if they seem clean on the inside I just use my soap mix (gentle hand soap and baking soda mixture) and a toothbrush to scrub them on the outside. Trying not to get too much water inside. For the tough spots I use cotton balls and pure acetone, being very careful to avoid the symbols and eyes! Then I wash them with the soap again to get rid of all the acetone (I know it evaporates but another wash can't hurt).

For the hair I usually just wash it with the same soap if they need it and use the conditioner I mentioned above. Let it sit for a while (usually just a day but sometimes I get busy so they sit longer) then rinse. Dependent on the style I want I either wrap the hair around the neck with a damp paper towel (for the straighter style) or use either bobby pins and straws (for the tight curls) or just wrap the hair around a finger and use bobby pins to hold it (for the loose curls). Luckily, since it's still like winter here I can just pop them in front of a heater vent and in a day the hair is dry and styled. In the summer it takes a bit more time to set.

Lev... If you want a Firefly tail I'm sure I have one floating around here somewhere. Just let me know :) They all look so much better after some love <3
