Ok, here's my prob...

I totally love my G1 pony collection, (and my partner has learned to live with it!!!) BUT... So does one of my cats...

We rescued him, he was found as a 2 week old orphan and I had to bottle feed him for the first few weeks. He is now a full grown, large, gorgeous, active snuggly boy and we love him to bits.

He also loves pony.....

He is forever getting into the bottom shelf of my display units and pushing the ponies out the way so he can curl up amongst them. Doesn't chew or scratch or damage them, (Well, he hasn't yet and I thought if he was gonna do that, it would have been when he was tiny) but it does get to be a bit annoying to keep having to rescue poor ponies from the floor...

I took my two Show Stables down to give them a clean and typical, he took advantage and leapt straight up there, and curled up behind the ponies on that shelf. Any chance he gets he will sleep amongst the ponies!

I guess what I want to know is, should I be worried? He hasn't damaged any yet, (and I don't think he will) but you really never know.

He does stay away from the Nirvanas though, they are in a different place, and he used to get inside the Paradise Estate and sleep in the Nursery when he was tiny. (And he was tiny, he was about the size of a G1 adult when we found him.)

Anyone have any ideas how to stop him cat/pony napping, or should I just give up and be happy my furry baby shares my love of Pony???

I have some awesome pics... If only I knew how to post them lol!!!

If you ever try to sell/trade them to someone who's allergic to cats, it'll be a problem. It's possible he'll damage them, too, if he's not careful.

You can put them behind doors or move them somewhere he can't get to them.

My cat use to do this as well with part of my plush collection.
What I did was I moved them to a higher shelf and put things she couldn't scratch, bite or chew on the bottom (because despite the fact she had NEVER ever bit or scratched one of my plushes, one day she did idk why). Personally, I would rearrange your collection. If you have boxed playsets or other boxes items, put them on the bottom and see if he stops then (just be sure to watch the edges of the box, make sure he's not chewing on them).
My cat leaves my ponies alone mostly but every now and then I find ponies knocked off their shelves and nibbled on a bit...luckily, they're not rare ones and she has like one tooth heh.

My cat is the reason that I have my ponies in another room that he's not allowed into. XD I didn't think we would bother my ponies, until I found him chomping on a baity G3. He thought it was a toy for him!

My advice is to fill your shelves. My cat used to crawl around on my book shelves. It drove me bonkers. So I moved my books up to the front of the shelf because I noticed that my cat will tend to not mess with stuff or jump up onto things if there isn't room for him. So maybe try putting another row of ponies behind the first row? Or possibly risers? Basically just something to fill the space so that your cat can't get in there.

Mine also has a taste for G3 0_0 he plays with them like catnip! LOL does not touch G1 though XD Have not tried a G4.

My cat likes to sniff my ponies too, she'll rub up on ones she really likes but all of my pony collection are on high shelves, some in a cabinet so once I've let her have a look at a new arrival - she has to inspect each box and bubble mailer for any random cat treats which may have strayed in there - they are put up out of reach.

I like to think that by satisfying her initial curiosity and allowing her to sniff the pony under supervision, she'll then know what it is that mommy had had in the post and won't bother again. If I didn't and tried to hide it from her, I reckon she'd try a bit harder and try and go for the shelves (she's a contrary little bugger) and unintentionally wreck everything.

Besides, she has her own nip pony - a really baity fakie I stuffed with cat nip. She's so fond of that one, she'll leave my ponies alone!!

I'm thinking your kitty likes the shelf more than your ponies. :D My kitties will do this with one of my bookshelves--they'll dig out the books and then curl up on the shelf. Now, that doesn't mean your kitty won't eventually damage your ponies. Cats are strange that way, 99 times out of 100 they won't bother something then on the 100th time they bite it/scratch it for whatever catly reason. Gotta love the little rascals. :D Bottom line: it would be a good idea to move the ponies.

My cat Loki took a liking to my G1 Twilight. He almost licked it so I snagged it away from him quickly. My other cat Cooper on the other hand was terrified of my G4 Fluttershy. My other cat Kitta has not seen them much. Though she'd knock them off the table or something. She does that with everything.

I never let my puppy, 2Chainz, anywhere near my ponies. i had a few g4's i fiddled with frequently in a little basket that i would move around, depending on where i was, and he would always go after them. i would always yell at him and snatch the basket away...than one day, i wasn't keeping an eye on the basket, and he runs into the kitchen, where i was with my siblings, and hanging by the mane from his mouth was Shining Armor!! i was sooooo angry. Armor was fine but i had to put them higher up after that

Oh my goodness! The lovely baby I care for is called Loki. And my cat is called Lucky so Loki and Lucky are my boys.

I think you guys may be right, it is def the shelf that Lucky likes. (Or maybe it is just making work for his Human Mummy!) Lately though he has been staying away from them, and sleeping on the floor in the toilet... I think he just likes being difficult...

He did have a shelf nap yesterday, different place though. Took advantage of me pulling the Show Stables down to dust em, and jumped up there. He managed to get behind the ponies without knocking any down, but once asleep he spread out and they all went flying.

I actually don't know how he manages to even get into the bottom shelf of the (pony) bookcase, there are over a hundred adult G1 ponies on that shelf and there are at least twenty in about three rows on that shelf alone... It's not like there are gaps for him to climb into..

I think I may have to empty out the bottom shelf again. Mind you, the last time I tried that he climbed the shelf so he could get into the second shelf and bowl those ponies... I think sometimes he just likes sending them flying.

Might be my fault for spoiling him rotten when he was tiny???!!! I reckon if I had to get up at 2am to give this tiny orphan kitty a bottle... Late night/early morning bottle feeds meant he was my baby!!! And... He knows it...

My partner says he just wants to play with Mummy's toys...

Pack those shelves tight! Risers are a good solution, as it makes shelves less snuggle-friendly, as well as making your display look awesome! And maybe keep him out if the room while you clean? or his very own cat play/sleep area or a kitty hammock in the same room might distract him from your shelves, too!

If you have any, watch those g3 ponies! It seems cats love chewing the magnets for some reason!

I have problems with the kittys jumping on my shelf then weave into the ponies knocking them over, so I put a long piece of poster plastic in front of the bottom shelf. so far I have not had problems.

My cats don't mind them. But my room is small, and they have to live with them just like I do. XD

My cat LOVES G3s. Loves to chew them, that is. One of the reasons half of my ponies are in storage because I can't display them where she can reach them. I don't know if she would chew G1s, but I don't want to find out.

Yeah they generally start with G3's because of the magnet, then find out how much fun pony hair is and escalate to other gens!!

My cat seems to have given up on the bookshelf.. How he managed to get in there with around 20 G1 adults packed in tight, I'll never know... His latest trick/fave spot is to get up on the mantelpiece and try to knock down the surround speakers... Those are my partners and he is not impressed! It's a wonder Lucky doesn't fall off the mantelpiece!!!
