pin-dot-mould and ingrained-dirt, what's the difference?

well I know of three things that drive every collector round the bend:
Pin dot mould
ingrained dirt
smooze (?)

now, I define smooze as center-dot mould where tan circles appear on the pony and can spread to others, but what's the difference with the other two? I'm guessing the 'dirt' doesn't spread to other ponies. I have a few ponies with this problem, and I want to kill it off/stop it spreading and get rid of it.

Is it safe to put pin-dot ponies with others if it isn't humid here? And how DO you tell the difference between pin-dot-mould and ingrained dirt?

oh, I heard 'oxy clean' (UK product) gets rid of one, haven't tried it yet.

Pin dot mould is curable and after treatment, the dots can be removed and is not permanent; ingrained dirt can not be removed and is permanent.

It's best to remove pin dot mould ponies away from the others, if not treated, it can spread. So unless you want all your collection to be infected, it's best to seperate the infected ponies, until you have treated them.

Oxiclean will only remove if they are smoozed, if they are only suffering from pin dot mould, then you can either decapitate them and fill them inside with bleach, leave it for a while, wash them out and then remove the dots with a pin or nail varnish remover. Or you can spray the pony with mould and mildew remover (dettol's is great), leave it for a while, and then wash the stuff off and remove the dots with pin or nail varnish remover. Oxiclean is not an disinfectant, you need them to be disinfected to get rid of the pin dot mould problem.

http://www3.telus.net/leinhorn/faq/cancer.html is the best site that can tell you the difference between pin dot mould and smooze.

I just threw away a Mirror Mirror with severe pin dot mold. Oxyclean didn't get rid of it. She was in nasty condition anyway, she was beyond help. -.- No symbol left, barely any eyes left, nasty hair and body marks galore.

dettol, right I'll try it. And I have separated the ponies away from the others.

So far I've scrubbed their outsides with acetone (pure) but not bleached them inside. I hate dealing with rubbish like this! My collection is practically all bloody BAIT!

oh great, I b;eached two of the worst (NSS shady and UK confetti) and it's not gone away.

These methods, will they kill the mould AND remove it? because spotted ponies are NOT the image I want if I sell them on.

Actually you can get rid of ingrained dirt.

Boil the pony (or at least run under a very hot tap till soft)

Mix up baking soda with water, apply to toothbrush and scrub effected areas, this work a treat with ingrained dirt if you are patient. :)

You need Dettol's mould and mildew remover, not the brownish liquid that you add to water.

It wont get rid of it visually, after treatment (and letting it dry) you need to either attack the area with acetone nail varnish remover OR remove each dot with a pin. All the treatment does is disinfect the pony and stops the mould being active, therefore preventing the spread to your other collection pieces.

Thanks for the tip Glorfindel, I never knew that.
