Hi there! I've been a TP lurker for a few years now. I'm a non-hardcore MLP collector. My collection is pretty small, since I usually only pick up ponies if I see them at a flea market (I only get to go to a couple flea markets a year, at most). So I don't really have any goals of completing sets or anything (I usually just pick up what I see, if it's cheap) but for some reason I REALLY like deflocking ponies! I only have four deflocked ponies so far, but I think I might try to work towards a complete deflocked collection (the 22 ponies that were released in the US in only SS form). So, here are my pictures if anyone wants to see them. If anyone wants to post pics of their deflocks or share tips, that would be great!
Truly was my first deflock. She remains, to date, the ONLY pony I have ever found in a thrift store. I found her about five years ago in this backwoods thrift store in West Virginia (for just 25 cents!). She was in bad condition - her mane has been cut, and half of her body had really bad flocking. I tried deflocking her using this incredibly inefficient method I found online years ago. It took me forever to deflock her - I seriously kept coming back to the project on and off for a few months. I made the most mistakes with her because she was my first, but I still really like her (haircut and all).
Because of how badly my first deflocking experience went, I thought I wouldn't try it again. But a few weeks ago I got the urge to try it again, and I ended up winning a lot on eBay with Shady and Buttons. They were perfect to deflock, because they had great hair but really bad flocking. This time I tried using the much simpler acetone nail polish and cotton balls method, and I was amazed at how easy it was. SO much easier this time.
Really bold colored ponies like Shady are fun to deflock, because of how VIBRANT they seem after they're deflocked!
Buttons wasn't a pony I had particular interest to deflock. Her colors seemed kinda generic, and her body didn't seem like a great color to me. When I got her, her body was so brownish grey. My whole opinion of her changed after I deflocked her, though. She didn't have a *WOW* change like Shady, but she looked SO much better after deflocking. Getting rid of the fur showed what a pretty light purple shade she was. When I've seen pictures of the European NSS Buttons, she was pink (I'm not sure if she was also made in purple; I've just seen pink pictures of her), and I must say she looks infinitely better purple. I think she's so lovely now.
I was on a bit of a deflocking high, so I tried to get one of the ponies I really wanted to deflock. I ended up winning Paradise on eBay for really cheap. She was a pony I've wanted to deflock really badly. Pegasi are my favorites, and I love her colors and symbol. There was a BIG difference when I deflocked her. Here's a pic when I started to take off a part of her flocking:
Her flocking was SO discolored! Unfortunately, Paradise was really difficult to deflock. Her flocking was really full, which made it harder. Her glue also seemed to stick much more than the other ponies. She took FOREVER, but it was worth it, because she's so pretty now:
And one last shot of the group:
I can't wait to deflock some more. Ribbon is the pony I want to deflock the most. I LOVE her color comination!
Feel free to post any pictures of your deflocks. I love seeing deflocked ponies!
