Hi there! I've been a TP lurker for a few years now. I'm a non-hardcore MLP collector. My collection is pretty small, since I usually only pick up ponies if I see them at a flea market (I only get to go to a couple flea markets a year, at most). So I don't really have any goals of completing sets or anything (I usually just pick up what I see, if it's cheap) but for some reason I REALLY like deflocking ponies! I only have four deflocked ponies so far, but I think I might try to work towards a complete deflocked collection (the 22 ponies that were released in the US in only SS form). So, here are my pictures if anyone wants to see them. If anyone wants to post pics of their deflocks or share tips, that would be great!

Truly was my first deflock. She remains, to date, the ONLY pony I have ever found in a thrift store. I found her about five years ago in this backwoods thrift store in West Virginia (for just 25 cents!). She was in bad condition - her mane has been cut, and half of her body had really bad flocking. I tried deflocking her using this incredibly inefficient method I found online years ago. It took me forever to deflock her - I seriously kept coming back to the project on and off for a few months. I made the most mistakes with her because she was my first, but I still really like her (haircut and all).

Because of how badly my first deflocking experience went, I thought I wouldn't try it again. But a few weeks ago I got the urge to try it again, and I ended up winning a lot on eBay with Shady and Buttons. They were perfect to deflock, because they had great hair but really bad flocking. This time I tried using the much simpler acetone nail polish and cotton balls method, and I was amazed at how easy it was. SO much easier this time.

Really bold colored ponies like Shady are fun to deflock, because of how VIBRANT they seem after they're deflocked!

Buttons wasn't a pony I had particular interest to deflock. Her colors seemed kinda generic, and her body didn't seem like a great color to me. When I got her, her body was so brownish grey. My whole opinion of her changed after I deflocked her, though. She didn't have a *WOW* change like Shady, but she looked SO much better after deflocking. Getting rid of the fur showed what a pretty light purple shade she was. When I've seen pictures of the European NSS Buttons, she was pink (I'm not sure if she was also made in purple; I've just seen pink pictures of her), and I must say she looks infinitely better purple. I think she's so lovely now.

I was on a bit of a deflocking high, so I tried to get one of the ponies I really wanted to deflock. I ended up winning Paradise on eBay for really cheap. She was a pony I've wanted to deflock really badly. Pegasi are my favorites, and I love her colors and symbol. There was a BIG difference when I deflocked her. Here's a pic when I started to take off a part of her flocking:

Her flocking was SO discolored! Unfortunately, Paradise was really difficult to deflock. Her flocking was really full, which made it harder. Her glue also seemed to stick much more than the other ponies. She took FOREVER, but it was worth it, because she's so pretty now:

I can't wait to deflock some more. Ribbon is the pony I want to deflock the most. I LOVE her color comination!

Feel free to post any pictures of your deflocks. I love seeing deflocked ponies!

Very interesting, this "deflocking"...never even knew people did that! I'll have to look up the methods used for this in case I come across a really good "deflocking" project!!

Your ponies look amazing~ you did a GREAT job!

You're right, they're so stunningly beautiful deflocked! Even as a child I didn't like how the flocking faded their true colors. You did a great job on all these!

Nice work CB Baby Ribbs! Paradise is so pretty! I've never seen her deflocked before. I think I prefer her deflocked. Very pretty ponies.

Wow, your ponies look SO good! I've been wanting to try deflocking but I'm a little afraid to. Would you share your method? : )

i just did a best wishes, still needs a little work, she is sooo bright and pretty, i loved deflocked ponies to........i want to do truly and twist some day !

After seeing the results, I personally want to deflock the majority of my fuzzy ponies. They look so much better and less dingy/grungy than flocked ponies normally look.

Those are all gorgeous! I've never had that good of luck with deflocking, and I love the way they look when they're done, especially Paradise. :)
Awesome!

It definitely takes a lot of patience to do de-flocks! Paradise came out lovely! I have the urge now to buy one to do myself lol. You've inspired me.

Here's my own NSS Skippety Doo. I just adore her colors. You're right - they truley are wonderfully vibrant.

*claps* I looove deflocked ponies! Woo! very pretty, Paradise is my favourite! Great job, takes so much patience.

I love your deflocked ponies, especially Paradise!! I think many of the ponies are much nicer after they have been deflocked :)

I have only deflocked one pony myself and that was just a few weeks ago. So Soft Angel came to me with a bad flocking and several brown/yellow glue spots. I think she turned out very well, especially since this is my first deflock :)

OMG, Angel is SO gorgeous! I think I'm getting the deflocking urge....

wow they look great, im amazed at how their symbols dont seem to be botherd by the acetone. i used acetone to deflock some ponies i sold in the end, and i could only do so much to the symbol cause acetone removes the paint on their symbols. so i am really amazed at how well yours look unbothered. lol

Thanks so much for the comments everyone! And thanks for posting your pictures of Skippity Doo and Angel. They look so great!

My method is pretty much the standard one I've found online, and it works well for me. I use nail polish remover (the 100% acetone stuff, and quite a bit of it - I think I used about 8 ounces of it per pony), a lot of cotton balls, and q-tips. Most of the body is really simple, I just soak a cotton ball in nail polish remover, then scrub the fur/glue fairly hard until it comes off. Discard the cotton ball when you get a fair amount of fuzz and glue on it.

The symbol, blush, and especially the eyes are the only tricky parts. With the symbol, I just softly wipe the acetone-soaked cotton ball over it until it looks like all the fur is off. Sometimes there is some glue left on the symbol, but it's pretty much unnoticeable, and removing the rest of it would almost surely take off part of the symbol (my Truly and Buttons had parts of their symbols rubbed off, but I've gotten better at it). Blush is pretty much the same. I've had a harder time with the eyes - it seems impossible to get the surrounding glue and fur off without removing parts of the pony's eyeliner. I used q-tips soaked in nail polish remover to get it off, but everytime I've taken off at least a bit of the eyeliner, so I just used a fine-point Sharpie marker to draw it back on (it looks fine to me).

Thanks again for the comments and the pictures of the other deflocked ponies! I love looking at pictures of other deflocks. I think I've seen a deflocked picture of every so soft pony except Crumpet - maybe someday I'll luck out and find a really grubby Crumpet at a flea market and have no other choice but to deflock her ;)

I'm in love with those vibrant colors! You did a great job! *eyes shady* I'm really tempted now.

I want to deflock my Buttons, and I tried once but severely messed up, any tips for me? I tried the pure acetone but it does take the glue off very well. The pony looks all grimy and not smooth like yours.

Oooh! Your deflocked ponies look so vibrant and beautiful!

Those are awesome! I've got a herd waiting to be deflocked. Too bad my evenings are full like whoa right now...I really want to see my Paradise turn white. =)

For those who are having trouble getting bits of glue off the deflocks, might I suggest Goof Off on a Q tip? It seems to work better than acetone for me, and it didn't damage the eyeliner when I, uh, accidently dribbled some on there... I've only done one deflock (that wasn't a bait, I mean) and the Goof Off was a lifesaver. Pop-Girl had a tutorial on the Arena about a product called Jasco that works like a charm also.
