im so totally sold on it, i LOVE the cartoon style and its totally going to apeal to kids, who love there mass prouced anime...

I was readin the other day and this i think fits in, that Japan now produses 40-50% of its Anime for the US market, were as in the 80's (were most of my fav titles were made) the market was 100% for Japan...

Maybe its cuz we collectors loved the junko pony so much? lol
 
New G1s!! OMG I love them, too cute!! I could do with seeing my old friends in a new...um... style? lol Bring on the G1s! I hope the cartoon is cute/fun/ect..

But I will say one thing... GO AWAY Pinkie Pie. No one wants you. This is G4 and you should leave because you are not an adorable G1s. Don't think that getting wings we will not know who you are. Oh we know, we know. LOL!!!
 
Hmm Well there is supposed to be a villain in the new show, maybe the alicorn really is evil?

My feelings exactly! Maybe I'm being overly sensitive, but I think it's borderline desecration to call this "Sporkly" thing a reincarnation of Glory -- or Sparkler for that matter. Don't get me wrong, I think she's very lovely in her own right. She pings all the "whitebluepurplesparklyunicornomg" pleasure centers in my brain. I would be thrilled to see her as a recurring character with her OWN name and personality, just not as the new Glory.

It's a huge consolation that those pictures are unofficial, though. Any old schmuck can put together a picture collage and slap it up on facebook. Doesn't mean Hasbro will actually follow through on the speculation. She may not even show up in the new line at all, since we haven't seen her outside of that single early promo picture. She might have just been a prototype concept for Twilight Sparkle, or whatever her name is.

I'm pretty confident that Poesy (and... ugh... Sweetie Belle (and... wha?... Pegasus Pie)) are actual contenders for the revamp though. It wouldn't make sense for Hasbro to put out a Licensing Style Guide for their new MLP line that features character art of non-characters.

Speaking of which, I soooo want to be able to read all the text in that guide. I love that the ponies have a "Good Side" and a "Bad Side" -- I just wish I knew what they were! Do you think there's any hope of Hasbro bringing it to the MLP Fair for us to peruse? Not that I'd be able to go and see it at the Fair anyway, but I'm sure people would take nice big pictures and notes for us poor souls left behind. Hasbro brought the old G3 style guide in a previous year, didn't they? I seem to remember that's how we found out about ponies actually being little girls and not horses. :p Who should I beg to get this to happen?

To those who are confused, alicorn as in winged unicorn-- pronounced with a long a sound, from the Latin alis ("wings") and cornus ("horn") -- is entirely different from alicorn as in unicorn horn -- from the Italian alicorno ("unicorn"). Both terms are recently coined, and both have crude etymological roots, and both here to stay. It's unfortunate that they are homographs of each other, but that's English for you. It would be just as silly and just as unproductive to correct people for using the proper noun Pegasus as a catch-all term for winged horses.

On your first point- There is a thread here for questions members ask of the Hasbro representatives, I'm sure we can ask what we what about the show! They can confirm or deny any of this speculation.

On the Alicorn bit, it seems a bit silly to me for anyone to be totally correct on the terminology for mythical creatures, lol. You bring up a very interesting lesson though!

maybe shes the villain from the new tv show.. i dont think all the new girls will be like this becasue if you look at the little figures from the toy fair, ms. longlegs wasnt built like the rest ( longer, taller, ..angrier XD etc.) i cant wait for the show to come out, though =) and im pretty excited for the new line of toys, hopefully they'll turn out nicely :3

I have been avoiding this thread for the last few days because I didn't want to see that frightening unipeg thing again! In catching up on it, I have to say, some of you are hilarious! :)

I am looking forward to see all the new characters!!!:smiley_duck: I have to confess that I preferred the unipeg had moulded hair... Also I like very much the idea of the "hybrids" (old characters in new moulds)!:RotCol::RotCol: Does anyone know how many characters are going to be released in these manga-like moulds? G1 are absolutely fantastic, but I don't think Hasbro will ever release sth similar...so I welcome any new idea! :RotCol:At last, Hasbro will stop releasing the core 7! :RotCol:
 
I agree with ya Visage, I liked her a little better with the molded hair----no tangles! I also liked her much better (hehe) with the molded wings. I didn't like the fabric wings on star catcher and I don't like them now. Oh well, maybe if I win the lottery I can buy that prototype from the toyfair piccies! :tongue2:
 
ooo drama...*shifty eyes*LOOK A PONY!! She's cute...I am growing a liking to G2's because they are ALL TWINKLE EYES! :D lol This..."G4" does look angry...and shes cute, but she does NOT look like Hasbro. She looks like a fakie. Cute for what she is, but as a Hasbro MLP...meh.
 
Whenever I hear 'Pegacorn' I keep think of Corn with wings! So I've been calling her a 'Winged Uni'

But as far as the thought of Pinkie Pie, etc. being able to get wings...I had a dream about that last night! In it they were normal ponies who transform into their magical alter-egos to fight the baddies....but that may have been induced by spazzing over some new ponies in a thrift find followed by a marathon of Sailor Moon last night......XD
 
Okay, so first I want to say that I am super excited about seeing this new cartoon. I LOVED the Power Puff Girls, and if this show is anywhere near as entertaining I will be happy. The characters are adorable- their look is updated for what kids like nowadays, but they aren't so far gone that they no longer represent ponies (like G3.5). Plus the fact that they are combining pony generations together is interesting to me.

The toys I am a little less thrilled about, but I still like them. I was never a huge fan of molded hair, but I guess it works for these ladies. Their ears remind me of a chipmunk or something though. And I am guessing based on the pictures below that
A) We will be seeing Spike again, and
B) The unipeg is some sort of villain or separate character from the rest of the ponies

Overall I am pretty happy with the direction MLP is going now.
