Who else remember when there were only "old ponies" (G1s) and "new ponies" (G2s)? :) I remember the debates when the G3s came out . . . What to call them? "New-new ponies"? "Ponyville ponies"?

Does anyone have any links to the threads where we talked about / debated this? They would've been from around 2003. (Or is there an easy way to just view threads that old?) I'm curious to see if I can pinpoint when "G1 / G2 / G3" started becoming commonplace terms. :smilepony:

That would be pretty interesting to know, actually!

I could throw a wild guess and say the G-names were chosen sort of to go with Transformers. Even if in TF the only "generations" that actually have a G name are G1 and G2, and those are actually part of the same continuity family (G1). TF deals a lot more with "eras" and the aforementioned "continuity families" than straightforward "generations", as MLP does.

Oh yeah, they were definitely inspired by Tranformers, which has its own G1 / G2. :) (Are you a Transformers fan? Me too!)

Mostly I'm trying to find the threads discussing names, though. Buuuut I just realized this board (or at least this version of the board) only dates back to 2005, so it might not be possible.

I can't believe G3's are 10 years old already. I remember finding out that they were coming back with ponies from a License! Magazine article and everyone was so excited when I posted the page scans.

2003 was before the board moved I think LadyM but the old TP would be viewable via the wayback machine.

I was just having a look at the old TP on there, it seems a bit hit and miss, pages that say they are different days have the same scan recalled, over several months worth of saves sadly :(

Its not got a lot of information on there, you cannot see the threads nor pages beyond the front page of discussion.

It would be so neat to be able to actually read and search it properly again! Probably cringe at our younger selves a bit as well! :shockpony:

Pookie the old TP or at least ezboard, was hacked at some stage that's why there's stuff everywhere however there is still usable information if you go hunting for it.

Poor old board :( Yeah must have been from transformers. Yeah i realized too that 2003 line is 10 years old o_o

I was curious about finding myself on there and what on earth my crazy post count would have been!

Its rather odd thinking G3's are 10 years old... goodness, something to easily make you feel old as well!

You know what's really sad? I was AROUND when we started naming the generations. I am pre-gen 2 in the community, and god yes, I remember EZboard *gag*. *waves her cane* You ponies get off my lawn now, y'hear?

As I recall, around the time G2 (Ponies, not TF) came out, we were discussing what to call them, and I'm almost sure I remember someone mentioning the whole Transformer G2 line (which was out from 1992 - 1994), and since G2 Ponies were 1997 or so, it's not that far fetched to say that it came from there. *shrug* Then came G3 and by then it was just standard to call new iterations of ponies by generations.
