Opinions on Giving Kids G1 Ponies?

I think it's good, but it also depends on the pony, and on the kid. I personally wouldn't give a kid a mint G1 pony if I know they are destructive and whatnot. However, if I know they are responsible, and careful with their toys, I would totally give them one, and get them started into collecting!

I agree with pretty much everyone that a common pony is fine. However, I am really protective of my own collection and wouldn't let anyone play with it. Luckily, I have no little kids around to worry about wanting to play with them. My niece is 8 and lives a long ways away but when she was younger and around I kept a few g3s for her to play with.

@evilbunnyfoofoo Yes......... now there's a good idea . But I think most likely my Ponies will be raided:eek:
But I think that will work for me, it means I can buy more sad, run down ponies & giving them make overs. JOY

I am a HUGE toy nut. In college I had an entire room in my apartment that no one was allowed in because it housed my toy collection. I always thought that I would share my love for vintage toys with my kids up until my daughter was lead poisoned at 10 months. Now her lead poisoning did NOT come from toys, it came from my landlord doing shoddy renovations, but it forced me to research everything in our immediate environment. As a result I will never allow my children to play with vintage toys. PVC is pretty toxic and the older it is the more it breaks down and releases chemicals that are incredibly harmful to children. There are a few exceptions I have made (my daughter has the vintage BHH, but NO vintage dolls or pets from SSC), but for the most part I really limit not only vintage but current toys. I buy most of the toys my children own from European toy companies or from sellers on Etsy who make safe, sustainable toys. My son has pretty much every Rescue Bot Transformer toy known to mankind and my daughter just started getting into Barbie and MLP (she has always loved SSC due to my love for her), but most of the toys we own outside of those are made from wood and feature organic stains and paints made out of fruits and veggies. Oh yeah, I just went hippie dippie on you - LOL :p

Oh and I totally agree about kids and toys these days. It breaks my heart. My kids play from sun up to sun down with toys. My house is ridiculously full of pretty much any toy you could want to play with (I even have a deluxe wooden kitchen and grocery store in my dining room with felt food of all kinds). I refuse to put the TV on or let them sit in front of a device. In fact, we did not have a TV for most of my son's life so far (he just turned five). We just got one over the winter and I have to admit that my hubby and I use it way too much when the kids are asleep (gaming). When my kids get bored of playing we do crafts. I have two cabinets full of craft and homeschooling supplies. I always applaud them for using their creativity and imagination. We need less screen time and more play time. Kind of funny saying that sitting in front of a pc ;)

Wow @Icey thats awful about your daughter's lead poisoning. I know I have had myself tested since I have tons of these toys and I guess touching them for me never was a problem. I don't blame you though because, a child needs protecting from that. Thats just awful. You are a good mom to protect her.

Thank you. Yeah it was really hard at first because she was so young and we had to be really careful about her diet. We already eat an organic, whole food diet but we had to make combinations that would help bind and detox the lead from her body. She is 2 1/2 now and is doing well, but the lead poisoning effected her teeth. It breaks my heart because I am so meticulous with their teeth. Her brother has perfect chompers and my poor Princess has surface damage and carries from the lead :/

Oh and I nursed her straight through until a month ago when I had my own dental emergency. That was a God send. My goal was always two years per child but she was not eager to give up the breast. She still asks me if my 'boobie milk is still caca' because she wants to drink it - LOL!
