My birthday came and went. R2 did not get me a gift because well, he messed up. All forgiven. This weekend he said he would take me to get this 1940's doll I wanted badly from the antique shop. We went. The whole booth was gone. I was seriously disappointed about the doll. I keep thinking if he had just gone and gotten the doll after I told him I wanted her for my birthday...I would have her. A 125.00 value doll was only 45.00. The dolls are on ebay and all well over 125.00. Two days before I go to the antique store the lady that owned the booth cleared out of the mall. I had to ask one of the employees what happened to the doll lady because, I wandered around the same isle over and over in disbelief that I couldn't find the doll lady.

I never got a gift, because I can't figure out what I would want. Its like I don't want anything at all now. I can't find a single thing on ebay I want. This is so messed up. So I have the money for the gift but I am just Meh.

Ooooooh Happy belated Birthday Tula!! :xmashug::xmashug:

I’m sorry you missed out on your doll. Hopefully she will find a way to be in you life regardless. If it makes you feel any better, my boyfriend always forgets my birthday. Like he has never remembered it in four years. I also have yet to get a birthday (or Christmas) gift from him either. I always try to play cool “oh it doesn’t matter” but it still stings a little. So, I feel you - birthdays are important days in our lives.

I say treat yo’ self! Go do something you really enjoy and really take it in, love your self and celebrate you.

Happy birthday, sweet Tula!

So... what sorta doll was it? Was it unique or a popular model for the 40s? And this all reminds me, I need to show you a doll I recently acquired. She's hand sewn, and just posh. I didn't really 'want' her, but couldn't leave her, she was about to be binned. I'll have to get a photo of her!

Thank you @Skybreeze when I figure out what I want I will do that. LOL

@evilbunnyfoofoo she was an Effanbee Sweetie Pie doll in original clothes, near mint wig, no cracks or eye damage, all the lashes and good compo/painting with no flaking. What I loved about her with that her wig was in perfect shape for caracul this is amazing. Also her face was bright with no blemish. Sigh, she was a cutie and I have been wanting a nice one for a while without cracks, paint lifts and a rats nest messed up wig. Composition dolls are super hard to find like that especially a doll that is in that good of shape. You can find them lower with brushed out wigs and replaced clothes. I want that perfect wig.

What's a composition doll? @tulagirl
Composition dolls are made from a sawdust and glue combination. They would pour this in a mold and it would make the body parts of the doll. Then they would paint each part, string it together and add glass or tin eyes and either human hair wig or mohair/lambs wool (caracul). Composition has been around for a very long time, but due to lack of durability and versatility they stopped making them after the 40's. The 1950's was what we call the hard plastic doll generation. The problem with composition is it needs constant temperature or it will crack since it is wood. Also it shrinks with age and if left near water or out in the rain it would ruin the doll. So, to have any survive in good shape is always quite a find. I love them and have a cabinet full of various types. And as with all painted things it weathers badly over time. For some reason they are my favorite. I just love them.

I like the dolls with cracks, it shows their age and the love that their child/children have had for them over the years. I still won’t keep dolls in my home though. Lol They are nice to look at for me.

Yes I have seen those. One has a replaced wig which I don't want, one has damage I don't want and the other one I would take but can't pay that price right now. lol

There is nothing wrong with liking cracks, I just personally like to have a few that are pristine or as close as I can get because, I want them to hold up and be worth even more later. I don't want to throw my money away on a bad investment. If I spend my money, I want it to be on something I can resell if I have to at a nice amount.

:xmashug: Happy belated birthday @tulagirl ! I'm so sorry you didn't get your doll. I seem to remember you mentioning this one before. Sometimes husbands should just do what they're told, when they're told. (That goes for kids, dogs, siblings and pretty much everyone else, too. ;)) I wish I could find her for you. :xmashug:
