It is finished!

Well, kinda sorta...
I can't gloss varnish the painting for another 6 months, as most oil painters ( and the companies that make the varnishes ) recommend letting oil paints dry for six months to a year before sealing it.

What the glossy varnish will do is, 1) of course, seal the paint, and, 2) it will really help make the colors pop again as they did when I first laid paint to canvas board. Microfine dust kind of settled on the piece in my studio, so the darkest parts in the painting look faded ( had to touch it up in Photoshop to make it look as it did originally ).

----

And WildWranglers latest commission order of her character, Shyla, currently in the ink stages. I'll be marker painting this little pony girl soon.

And the flying kitty boys?

Well, if you know anything about the show, "SWAT Kats: The Radical Squadron", you'll know what I'm talking about.

I've been wanting to create a new piece for sale ( in print format ) for AnimeNEXT 2011, but base it from a show that I loved, not just something that is currently the in thing to draw. My choices were Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Biker Mice from Mars, Darkwing Duck, and SWAT Kats.

As much as I am admittedly a turtle fangirl, I ended up choosing the SWAT Kats. Why? Because, honestly, the story writing, animation AND the voice acting in the show was MUCH better than what was in the turtles cartoon, and it was such a completely kick butt show. Every episode, PACKED with energy, sharp attention to detail, and come ON, heavy metal soundtrack!

I'm determined to stay almost completely old fashioned with this piece. No use of Photoshop, except for cleaning the dust particles in the inks and resizing for online showings. Good old fashioned light boxes, tape, many layers of paper for the initial roughs, access to a Xerox machine, wooden pencils, a marker, and my beloved ink and brush.

The final piece will be a mixed media piece, mostly Dr. Martin Ph. dyes, colored pencils, acrylics, and a conte crayon ( if I can find that sucker in this mess of a studio of mine! ), mounted on gesso board.

I like how your stuff seems to be so broad, covering a range of styles but still obviously being your own :D The Unicorn is my favourite. The gold details are excellent, especially the horn.

Omg Swat Kats. ♥♥♥♥
By the looks of it you have excelent taste in cartoons in general *grins*

Do you live off your drawings? If not, you should definitely consider it. You can do so much with that talent and style.

I'm half and half.

I have a part time job at a liquor store AND run my art studio from my home. It's difficult as heck making a living as a freelance illustrator, wanting to be my own boss and run my own tax paying business, but it feels rewarding.

And if I ever wanted to start working for another company with my art, it does look good on my resume that I've been running my own business. XP
