Which is good news to sellers.
However, Buyers now have to pick up the processing fees (Unless they use their Mercari balance, then no fees)
If you want to withdraw your funds to your bank account, it's $2 fee.

Buyers can return for any reason now, no shipping fees. I'm not sure about this one.

See the screen grab for the changes in a nutshell.

ALSO, if you're selling, I suggest updating your listings to avoid those fees, it seems like it starts today for new and updated listings and may not adjust prior listings despite the asterisk.

I stopped using mercari as soon as I realized they don't confirm that a buyer has returned your item to you before giving them the money back. I had an incident where someone bought some very old vintage trading card packs from me that were quite expensive but priced fairly. The guy received them, opened them up and reported them as fake (they weren't) and mercari instantly gave him his money back without any investigation. He said "they're no use to you opened so I'm keeping them" and then deleted his account. (Or perhaps blocked me.) Either way, Mercari seems totally okay with facilitating theft.

It's fine for buyers but very unsafe for sellers. I haven't used it in a long time.

that's my concern about the returning. I had one item returned to me, and I remember it gave me the option to accept the return or not. It went smoothly, but I can see how scammers can take advantage of it all. I don't like the "I change my mind" bit- I feel like to deter that buyers should pay return shipping

I agree. The return shipping should fall upon the buyer if there's absolutely nothing wrong with the item. "I changed my mind" isn't the seller's fault.

Hmm, is the $2 flat fee for withdrawing funds better than the seller fees? At first I thought that was a drawback of this update but now I'm thinking the 'extra' money from not paying fees could easily cover this new fee. I'm also thinking that this update may make it harder for the average buyer/seller to operate on there, in that a $2 flat fee is a lot less when you are making 100s of dollars, but it's 20% of your earnings if you only make $10 trying to get some things out of your house, for example. Then, as a buyer using Mercari just a few times without selling, it's more expensive.. Would that deter buyers? This feels like a huge change to me!

It will be interesting to see this in action the next time I use Mercari! Thanks for sharing!

The "return for any reason" policy makes me really apprehensive about selling there. It just seems like something scammers can easily take advantage of. I'm not a professional selling business that can write off losses when things go awry, and the added fee as a buyer is frustrating to have to factor in on top of taxes already. There's so many things I want to reduce but ebay and mercari seem so daunting and dangerous to use anymore that I've been putting off selling.

As a new seller to mercari, no seller fees sounded fantastic at first, but seeing how astronomical the fees are for buyers makes me so apprehensive. I saw a buyer's screenshot where they paid $20 of taxes and fees on a $60 listing. I just can't see people justifying what is-essentially-a 30% upcharge.

I saw they had a fee for buyers that’s non refundable- hopefully that will make the reconsider returning?

That’s my concerns too. Unless I have a balance to pay with I won’t want to spend an extra $10+ on an item.

No seller's fees is good but free returns accepted that I cannot do because I get so many scammers these days I sell on Ebay on a daily basis because I now I will be safe most of the time at least but I still put in all my listings that I cannot accept returns or cancellations for any reason but I still get a cancellation or a return for the only reason of found a better price or trying to pull a swaparoo

I just sold my first book there. Seeing everyone's responses, I'm apprehensive now, too. I don't have a stable income so I wouldn't even be able to pay anyone, should it come to that.

sigh... so frustrating

I use Mercari to trade stuff for stuff, any money I make stays in my balance so I can buy ponies and dolls lol. And I don't think there's a buyer's fee if you are using your Mercari balance? I don't remember, I'd have to look.
I do wonder how that will affect buyers though - I'm already put off by high shipping prices, and then adding a fee on top of it? I think I'd rather pay a small fee as a seller - I'm the one using their services and I love the convenience of just being able to print a label with no hassle. I'm willing to pay a little for that!
