I know it's been forever since I've been on here, but this place has always been like my second home and family. And I've been through a bit of strain lately. Not like some others on here that I know. I don't know how they can keep going day after day, but I'm not used to this sort of thing. It's sort of a long story... but we'll see how it goes.
Let me start from the beginning. A few months back, I took my car in for a routine oil change. I got it back, and it was leaking oil terribly. I took it into the dealership and they discovered that the wrong oil filter had been put into it. So they re-did the oil change and let us see the bad filter, which was very clearly made differently than the one that should have been in it.
When I went home that day, the car broke down. After I got it towed back to the dealership, they discovered oil got into the spark plugs and they all had to be replaced. I told them to do the work, since it was originally not going to be too expensive.
When they did that work, they found more and more problems and the final answer was that the entire engine would have to be replaced. I didn't have a choice. I didn't have money for a down payment on a new car, plus I was already in the first amount that they had told me it would cost.
All this was started because the oil filter wasn't a properly made one. I contacted both the corporate office of the people who did the oil change, as well as the corporate of the people who made the filter, but neither bore any fruit. Neither company took responsibility for what happened to the engine. After talking to a lawyer, I was told that I had no case and it would be a waste of time trying to pursue the matter.
So I'm out the money to fix the engine, as well as money for two rental cars that I had to pay for. Neither of which I even had the money for. Here it is, three months later, and I still can't recover from it. I had to max out a credit card to help pay for the car and to help pay some bills, as well as borrow money from my mom and a very good friend of mine, both who I now have to pay back. But I can't afford it.
So I started a campaign on Gofundme.com. I know most of us are strangers, but I've seen this community do amazing things over the many years that I've been a part of it. I'm not begging for help, or even really asking for people to help, but maybe if you could all pass it around to help me out, it would be greatly appreciated.
