Need custom advice: Using sharpies on symbols?

Ok, I'm working on my custom Teddy-chan and I think her symbol would look even better if it were outlined in black with one of those super-fine sharpies. BUT...I used a sharpie for my first custom's symbol and it has since bled into the surrounding plastic over the years. That was on a G1 pony though, has anyone used sharpies on G3's at all? I don't want to ruin her, but I don't know what else to use to outline the symbol. I guess I could always just outline it in black paint, but the sharpie would be ALOT easier since all I have/use to paint symbols are toothpicks. ;) lol! Any suggestions/insights?

Any help is greatly appreciated! ^-^

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but yes I've tried sharpie on G3's. I did some testing and it bled badly within a few months. :(

eck!
i use sharpies all the time on mine!!
luckily i haven't seen any bleeding.
i do coat the symbols in clear nailpolish though,
i wonder if that helps!?
*tink*

the biggest problem i've had with sharpies on g3s is that they dry very sticky. :(

Wow, ok. I suspected as much, was just hoping somehow it'd be different on the G3's. >.< I won't be using the Sharpie then, thanks for the info guys! You were a great help! ^-^

I agree with the people here. I signed one of my earlier customs with a Sharpie on the bottom of one hoof, and within a few months you can't even tell what it says anymore because it bled so badly! :( Sorry, hun.

I don't customize, but I have a suggestion that might work.
Why not try a black gel pen? If you're worried it will still bleed you could coat the symbol with a clear finish first (not sure what it's called in english), then draw with the gel pen on that, let it dry (takes a day or two) and then carefully coat it again to secure the gel?

for black outline

i picked up a fine point black jelly pen for $1 (at paper cottage) and it takes a while for it to dry.. a long while.. and when it dries you do a second coat for a shiney look less you want a kind of dull out line.. and then after that dries i coat it in paint sealer.. it seems to act the same as not smudged or rinsed off(less you use a scrubber)

Wow, thanks for the suggestions, guys. ;) But those are all far too involved for me, I don't do all the fancy sealing and such for my customs. I only make one once in a blue moon, and they're always for me so I'm not too concerned with making them that perfect (and thus, more expensive). I'm far too cheap for all that. lol! ^-^
