And so it is time: THE NAMING is upon us!

I went through all the name suggestions, picked my favourite two from each person (if there were multiples) and have them up for a vote! Puppy is awaiting his new name with sleepiness and lethargy. What a lazy bum.

All this excitement has tuckered him out!

Voting lasts a week. The name with the most votes will be bestowed upon Puppy with great aplomb and the creator of said name will receive a fabulous prize!

You only get one vote, and Puppy is counting on you! Do your civic duty and pick a name!

I plan to use Pancho LePoofy for the next fluffy dog who comes to the sanctuary if it doesn't win here. It makes me laugh everytime!

So far it looks like Puppy will be a royal Duke maybe!

omg yus. Put a hat on a fluffy dog and call him Pancho 8D

I can just imagine him with a deep, deep, deeeeeeeeep voice

Foofoo: Would you like anything else, Duke?
Puppy: No...... Lemme sleee..... *falls asleep*

I'm gonna steal a lotta these later, you watch!

The winner of the poll is DUKE! HUZZAH! I shall be contacting Autumn Rose so I can get her prize sent out!

Puppy is now a grand Duke of cuteness!

I am so excited! I can't wait to receive my prize! Thank-you very much!

And happiest of all, Duke is already adopted out! His new mommy loves that he was named by contest and promises he will be her Duke forever (funny enough, she looked at the list and said Duke was one of her faves too!). He will be going to his new home next week or two. YAYS! He will be so spoiled and happy there. I can tell you, his new mom is an absolute doll!

His doggy mommy is still distrustful of people though. She will probably become a permanent member here at the sanctuary. I can't adopt her out if she doesn't like people much. She's starting to like me though! That's good enough. I will love her forever. And pooh to the people who abandoned her and her poor babies!

I hate to say this, but seeing how people treat their animals (and kids, I used to work with children) is one of the reasons I sorta started hating people in general. I've seen animals starved, beaten, had their little bones broken, seen cigarette burns, you name it...

Like Piccolo the panty thief? I was riding down highway 75 in Sherman, TX in a friend's car when I see something brown get chunked out the window of the car way in front of us. We drive by, there's Piccolo, sitting on the dotted line, looking terrified. I screamed for them to pull over and like an absolute idiot, ran down the shoulder then darted into traffic to grab him. In the past nabbing dogs of the road has gotten me bit, but Piccolo just screamed. A trucker had stopped in front of him, straddling the lanes so I could be blocked from some of the cars and I just ran with him. Fortunately he wasn't hurt, just scared.

I know for a fact he was thrown, he didn't jump. You could see the person's arms as they dumped him out. They intended to kill him. I had him for 13 years before he died of cancer. He couldn't be adopted out because he had terrible trust issues. No surprise there. I will never understand people who can do this. Never ever ever.

Congrats Autumn Rose, and to Duke for his new name, AND new home!
Hooray for happy endings! :D

@evilbunnyfoofoo, I know what you mean about starting to kind of hate people. I worked at an open-door animal shelter for a year and a half, and seeing the people who abandon and abuse animals (much less those who are just terrible pet owners) gets incredibly draining and depressing after a while. We've gotten in an apparently purebred Japanese Chin who was abandoned in a crate on the side of the road with a broken leg, cats who were incredibly malnourished (and sometimes died), a dog who was incredibly people-aggressive who had a chain padlocked on him--and his owner didn't know the combination! (We had to call Animal Control to get it off him because we didn't have bolt-cutters). On Easter last year somebody abandoned 8 unweaned pit bull puppies in a van on the premises with the doors closed--I'm scared to think what would have happened if an employee hadn't heard the whining.

But then you also see amazing adopters who find their perfect match in the animals they adopt, the ones who are ready and willing to spoil these little fur babies. It's a hard job, but still very rewarding. :)
