I'm so mad and sad! Now I'm gonna have to drive to Grand Rapids to buy my little ponies. Liquidation started last Saturday. I hope there's not a lot more TRU exclusives.

there was talk of Toys R Us in the UK going under last year. Dont know how true it is....

I haven't looked up the locations yet, so I don't know if ours are going to close. We have 3 around here, though. I'm sure the one at Rolling Acres will close...they are the ONE store that I can still find some of the oldest ponies on the shelves. They had a Sunny Daze 1 there a couple of months ago  . No one ever shops there because that whole shopping area is in a very bad/poor section of the city and over 1/2 the stores are vacant now. I'll miss that one, since I've found some good deals there over the years  . My son found one of the little stuffed Furbys (the first generation) there last week for a penny! They just had an inventory done, too, and the sales lady said "Oh, yeah, we still find those around although that is the stuff we are supposed to throw away." Der! You just had an inventory, so you can search for the UPCs that show up as a penny, find them and throw them out! I'm sure that is not one of the top grossing stores!

I already have to drive 70miles to get to one, and they have been talking about closing that one. If they do, the only time I'll get to go to TRU is on vacation.

We have 2 in our area as well, and they seem to do alot of business no matter what time of year it is. Uf they both go under, I would probably have to drive a state over to get to one, and I refuse to do that.

Does anyone have the link to find out which ones are closing? I did a Google search, but only came up with articles from 2003 and early 2005. I only have 1 TRU within 8 hours of me, so I *really* hope that one isn't going!

I'm closer to one than I've been in years, so I too would like a link to find out whether it's closing.

Store closing list

I found this list on another forum. It's not complete, but it's a start. There are no addresses, so if there are multiple TRUs in a city listed, I don't know which ones are closing. They mention that the TRUs already have started to clearance items, so check your TRU. Many thanks to the people at the Cheapa**gamers forum for this list:

Huh...I guess Rolling Acres is safe, then. Nothing up here in the north part of OH looks like it's in danger, at the moment. But then I guess 70 stores through the whole country isn't that many. That may mean OH would lose what? 5-6? We'll have to see what really happens, though.

The list I posted is *not* complete. Some of the TRUs that are to remain open will be converted to Babys R Us stores as well. Check your local TRU to be sure.

A bit off topic maybe....but there used to be TRU in Italy (mIlano, at least) years ago (I am thinking 7-8 years ago)....the one near my home closed down a couple years after opening :(

We got a toy store from an italian chain instead, called Toys center....pretty bad too, if you ask me >.< TRU was way better!

Well, the 3 that are closest to me aren't on the list, so far anyway!

OK, so they are closing the huge, clean Mira Mesa one but not the messed up, understocked and badly staffed Morena Blvd one??

Morons...

:)

Well, the loss of the Greenspoint Houston TRU wouldn't be too bad...it's really run down and well..not in a great part of town. Only thing is, they get things in first a lot of the time compared to other TRU's around here and usually have a lot of old stock (as I guess they don't sell much). So...it usually has a pretty nice pony selection. Ah well, I'll still have 2 or 3 nearby TRU's to go to if that one does shut down.

WOW,
That is some list!! We have one here in Lexington, and it is always busy, so hopefully it will stay!! It has been there since I was young, I can still remember the old layout, and right where everything was!!

Debra:)

My area's not on the list...but I can't help but feel so sad about this. I used to LOVE going to TRU when I was little. It was so exciting, and I loved the layout. It's just not like any other store. What a shame. Another chain called Media Play is closing several if not all locations...it seems like such a waste to see all these big stores closing. :(

I hope the one here stays open.

All I could find in the way of news was this statement:

Toys R Us Inc. said Monday that it would shutter 87 locations in the coming months as part of its reorganization after being taken private last year, but will spare 12 of them by converting the locations into Babies R Us stores.

Wow, 12 is not alot! And we have a babies R us on the other end of town, and it doesn't have kid/teen/adult toys, just baby toys, clothes, furniture, etc.!! So if they don't start selling toys then there won't anymore TRU exlusives for anyone!! This is so sad!!! Since we have the large Babies R Us, they will probably close the TRU!!

Debra

wichita, ks

the TRU on the west side of Wichta, KS is closing Feb 28th. Sux, but at least we have the other one.
