I always love seeing the threads where people work magic on ponies. It always amazes me what people can do with them. I was going through my bait box, and started to think to myself that almost none of them were bait after all. Some will still be made into customs, and some are just going to get alternate color rehairs now. However, there is one gal who could probably be saved.

Stripes is in pretty great shape aside from her hair. Her hair is really hurting. But, I have been inspired by people rescuing hair that is just as bad. So I figured that I would give it a go. I figure that worst case....I'll just rehair her with her original colors. I hope I can fix her though. Besides, I realized that by taking her out of the bait box, I was able to add a pony to my collection that I didn't have already. Of course now I have to find her set mates. lol.

Anyway, here is what I am starting out with:

Last night I washed and conditioned her hair in an attempt to comb it out as straight as I could. She's drying at the moment. Her mane was much easier than her tail, but the both are knot free now. I still have to go out and get a cheap curling iron to heat the hair, so further updates may be slow going.

Anyway.....advice is welcome! I know there are lots of pros here. Mostly though....does anyone think her hair is beyond repair? Should I just save myself time and rehair her?

I'll post updates on her as I have them.

*fingers crossed that I have a gorgeous gal with original hair by the end*

I have a rainbow curl pony who also had matted and frizzy curls when I got her. I conditioned and tried to comb her out the best I could but I couldn't get it quite as tame as I wanted, so while her hair was still wet I wrapped each piece of hair around a q tip and let it dry that way. Her hair actually turned out very nice, to my surprise lol. if definately try to save her original hair before replacing it, you might be pleasantly surprised like I was. :) lol good luck!

So I haven't gotten too far on her. I did manage to brush the curl out of her hair. This is what she looks like right now:

I did get a hair iron over the weekend. So hopefully the little one will go to bed on time tonight, and i will be able to play around some. :)

Good work so far! With the iron, do very tiny sections... Should take you at least 40 or so because her hair looks pretty bad. Have you already boiled it?

No I haven't boiled the hair. I was just going to wet it with hot water and work some conditioner in first. Should I boil it?

I find that boiling with conditioner in the hair helps a little bit before using the iron on them. You just dip her in and out and swirl her around, trying to keep the hair from tangling while you do it. You will probably want to comb it a few times in the process.

Yay! I am so happy with how she looks now. I may still put curls in her hair, but right now I am just enjoying how she looks now. I am totally addicted to fixing up hair now. Which is good...because I have a lot of ponies who have been in storage for a long time....so they could really use it! lol

I am SO happy I didn't bait her!

Wow, I should really try that technique on my ponies. She looks great!

Such a difference. You are so brave! I can never work up the nerve to use an iron. I usually just boil.

Wow, she came out really good! :D
She would look great with curls, too.

She came out great, nice job! I'd love to see her with curls.

Wow! Great work!
