Munchy - To rehair or not to rehair, that is the question.

I got this little Munchy very recently, and at a very very good price.

She is possibly the best condition of any of my ponies, like she just got popped out of her plastic and backing card. However, someone previously gave her a **** of a haircut. And G1 manes and tail take forever to grow back!

I am thinking to re-hair her, both mane and tail. I'm a Pony collector newbie so I'm not sure if its a good idea, maybe should I just leave her be?

xx Love, Carly

oh sorry, those are some might big pictures!

Oooo! I love Munchy! She's a favourite! What do you think about re-hairing her, ladies?

I vote for rehair! If you ever resell her, I'm sure that it won't deter buyers so long as you make it clear she's been rehaired.

But if you decide to keep her as is she's still adorable!

She is soo cute,I would rehair her with the same hair colour :)

Go for it! She'll look a lot better. :)

I agree I would re-hair her! Like everyone else said note it though. When I first came on the trading post I re-haired some ponies I got that had hair cuts. And even though I was just showing off my re-hair job I had a TON of members on here to made a point to tell me I had to mark them or keep records that they had been re-haired. (actually to be honest I was almost attacked by one person who said because I re-haired the pony I HAD to mark the foot with my name and say it had been re-haired. It was a little hurtful cause I don't like writing on my ponies, but later other members assured me that it was ok not to write on them as long as I had some way of remembering who was re-haired and who wasn't.

I love giving ponies a new shot at feeling pretty so I think you should re-hair and let that gal shine in all her glory.

Thanks for all your replies!

I have ordered some hair in her colour so she's going to be re-haired.

Nice tip about marking her re-hairing, although I can't bear to mark my ponies. I am a super geek and have a spreadsheet for all my ponies, each has a little info section and where they came from, so I'll be sure to mark it in there.

Well, yours has more hair than mine did when I found her. lol!

Can't complain too much since I only paid 25 cents for her at a fleamarket. ;) No question if rehairing was the best way to go with this one:

I'm a little torn with yours, honestly. Personally, I would just clean yours up and get rid of that tail rust. Unless you plan to keep her in your collection of course. ;) I would think she'd still be worth more as is than if you re-haired her.

If you want to rehair, but don't want to mark your pony, you can do what this person did with her Mimic: http://www.mlptp.net/forums/show-tell/103651-mimic-all-better-now-pic-heavy.html

Even though Mimic was rehaired with the same color, since the hair is so long, it's obvious that it's a rehair. So you have that option or you can even rehair her in alternate colors if you wish.

Or you can do nothing at all. The bottom line is it's really up to you. You paid the money for her so you do what you want that makes YOU happy with her. If other pony collectors don't like it, they just have to deal with it. :)

I've never rehaired a pony, myself, only because I am a bit intimidated by the whole process. If you feel up to the job, I say go for it! She seems like a good candidate. She's not terrible as-is, but it's tough to style short manes, as they mostly just want to stand straight up, lol!

I would rehair her if you are going to keep her. Though, if you're going to resell her, then just leave her the way she is.

Firstly, Aw, thanks for using my Mimic as an example Locket it makes me really happy :)

I recently bought a munchy who was wonderful if it weren't for her lack of a tail, and same as with my Mimic, I left it long and curled it, I usually leave my rehairs with long hair as its obvious that its a rehair and someone in the future when I'm old and wrinkled and have to sell my collection will be able too see the long brand new hair. Also, so I don't have to write on the pony!

If I can I'll keep the leftover tail of the original hair to keep with the pony because someone may like the original tail with the pony.

Also most times with variant ponies I'll rehair them if they are practically bald and just look super baity, but if they have hair longer than 1cm and a good body with good symbols I'll leave them alone.
And if you are keeping the pony then she is yours and its up to you! I think munchy will look wonderful with some new hair! :smilepony:

If you are going to sell or trade her, I'd recommend leaving her as she is. Personally I would want her, haircut and all, if she were going to be added to my own collection because I think she still looks cute.

But it is up to you. If you do rehair her, don't throw her tail away. There's a tailless Munchy out there somewhere who could use it as a donor! :D Especially since it's a very uncommon color in the first place.

I would keep her as is, because her cut looks kinda cute as well as I prefer my ponies to have original hair. But on the other hand I think she would look awesome with some new hair, so you shouldn't feel bad if you want to rehair her :) It might drop her value a little, but if you don't have any plans on reselling her, then why not go for it?
