I think it clicks on there, kind of like the iphone/ipod hard case covers.

Some iBook's topcases are made from white plastic and some are actually clear but with white paint on the inside. My iBook was one of the clear ones. I removed the top and apple, soaked the top in acetone and wiped away all the paint. Then I had the image I picked printed on some nice high quality paper to the size I needed. After some adjustments to get it to go around the corners and cutting out for the apple I just reassembled. I like having the image on the "inside" instead of just being stuck to the outside to avoid it getting messed up.
