While having a general discussion with a co-worker who collects Hot Wheels cars, I was simply fascinated by the fact that he purchased over 1500 cars during the 70's/80's and has managed to keep them in perfect condition in their boxes, unopened for all these years.

So I ask, for those of you who own MIB & MOC are you the original owner? And how did you have the will power to NOT open them all this time? I am especially interested in hearing about G1 & G2 collections.

Well....I don't have MLPs MIB, I have some Sailor Moon dolls that I have had for about 10 years now, and they are still in their boxes. It's been hard, since they have little stands to display them with inside the box. I just display them, and when I feel like I want to open them, I just pack them away for a while. I don't it's not really the same thing, but it was all I had to add. lol

I only have one pony on her card, SS Shady and her card is bent, dirty, and discolored but I still keep her inside. I was not the original owner and I think that helps. If I was the original owner I think I'd rip that sucker open and start the playing. I guess the only reason she stays in there now is that I have a loose SS Shady. If I wanted to play with her :cough: at 24 :cough: , I would!

I have dusty G2 boxes, but that's it. All G1 and G3 are opened and admired <3

I actually have Big Top and Toppy MIB and they will stay that way. I have Chocolate Chipper, '07 Snow 'El, '07 Jolly Lolly (who was given to me by Dragonschaser for the Spring Fling Swap), '08 Valentine's Sweetie Belle, and '08 Easter Toola Roola MIB and they will also stay that way. All others I have are loose. I was just lookng at my G3 MIBs this morning and wondering where I got the restraint to keep them boxed up. Then I realized that boxed up I can stack them and they take up less room. LOL Sometimes, it very hard not to take them out and play with them and style their hair and stuff. But like I said, space restraints....

I don't have any MIB or MOC, wish I did though. But if I was a kid I would not have the will power to leave them unopen. I might not have the will power now because I would want a nice pony to be shown off on my bookshelf

I can't bear to keep them MIB/MOC even though I know it boosts up the value an amazing amount. To me, ponies are toys meant to bring joy, not meant to be boxed up. So I take them out of the box (but I keep it), and display them that way, my new G3s are still Mint despite being out of their boxes, and my old G1st are all in pretty fair condition considering the amount of love they had when I was a child.

I've got about 40 + Moc and Mib, and no plans on opening them, G1's that is. I only really collect the G2's MOC and for most I am the original owner (unless you count the person who bought it first to stick on ebay, or for me to buy from them....argh to the UK only releases! Triple argh!!!! to the France only releases!). G3's I pick up and Keep MIB just cause.

I've got stock piles of MOC ponywear, cheap thing to collect that MOC and looks just as good hanging on the wall as a MOC Pony.

I've also got a few pony 'things' like a muffin tin MOC, and Book marks MOC. I just hang them on my walls like posters (they hang from tacks though!)

I have no problems keeping them in the box, I just love the way they look for prefect and untouched. Silly used to open everything but is slowly going MIB as she has discovered they are easier to dust and with 280+ loose G3 ponies there is always someone to style or set up who is not boxed.

I do have a bunch MIB / MOC and am not the original owner. I have however wondered quite often how they came to remain on card or in box when they were intended for young children who just loved to break into the packs and free them.

I know I did at that age. I still remember the feeling and the appearance of getting them from the store and opening them all fresh and new. If only I'd had the good sense to get two of everything!

Thanks all.

It just amazes me that there are so many still MOC/MIB after so much time.

Maybe someday I'll have enough will power to have one, but right now I'm a serious hair brusher, so I prefer them loose!

To be completely honest, I had a few MOC's when I first started collecting at 11 years old or so, and I could not resist opening them :(

Now though, I am a MOC collector, and I don't touch them. They look so pretty and new and I don't want to spoil that. :)

Same here! I used to open them around 1999-2001 because i wanted perfect ponies, till I realized that even MOC stuff isn't always perfect. And with that, if i'm going to spend the cash on it, I don't want to bring the value down for one, or spoil the fact that they have all their accessories perfectly displayed with them, no worries about loosing or catelogging stuff;) Plus they look so nice with the old artwork on the cards.

Sadly I'm not the original owner of any of my 160+ G1 MOC's but I've kept them for 7 years now, and they will stay that way for as long as I can afford it.
