I'm curious about Mercari as an ecommerce site, and I've seen some ponies with Mercari shops, so I'd like to know what your experience is like. Do you think it's worth selling on Mercari? Are the fees reasonable? What don't you like about it, or like about it. Or was it like the worst mistake you ever made?

I have an Etsy shop, and I like Etsy, but I've been thinking of expanding. Etsy is alright, but it feels limited. I love doing the whole selling of handmade goods, but I'd like to sell other things as well. I guess Ebay would be an option, but Mercari seems...legit?

Thanks! :Moondancer:

I've been selling on Mercari and Ebay since March 2022. I make twice as many sales on Mercari then I do on Ebay and I think it was easier to learn.

Mercari is pretty good! The fees are okay, they're only really noticeable when you're trying to sell items for cheap (I've lost money on just about everything I've sold for $5 or less but I haven't had any issues with larger sales). The only thing about Mercari is that I would advise that you pack and weigh the item you're selling before you list it, as they automatically estimate shipping if you don't put in the weight manually and they can be way off.

Yes, I would agree with zoepx- anything too cheap isn't really worth it, in my opinion. The mistake I made was trying to sell trading cards. I listed some below $5, and it wasn't really worth it at that point. What I love about Mercari is how easy it is to ship packages. For most things you can go to the UPS or USPS with a QR code and they print a label out and ship it and you're done. For trading cards you have to print the label out yourself which isn't as easy.. so as long as you stick with ponies over cards I think you will be okay  I'm newer to selling on Mercari but I have used it a lot :)oops:) to purchase things and I really like it. I think the pony community on there is great, especially with other collectors, but even purchasing/selling outside of that I have not had any bad experiences with people. As for fees, I haven't used Ebay or any other platform before so I can't comment on that- just the same thing that selling anything below $5 may not be worth it! Good luck!! :happyhearts:

@Draco thank you. "the fees are ugh" lol, right? Feel the same way about Etsy lol. I've sorta learned to accept the fees, but still make a face everytime...

@zoepx thank you. I leanred the hard way on Etsy that anything $5 or below just isnt really worth it, it just basically helped pay the listing fees..But its a good reminder and I'll keep that in mind about pricing. I have a scale for shipping weights, I usually weight the item with the box and shipping materials. Also learned the hard way that like every ounce counts. I like to secure the item, beause i have an irrational fear of it being damaged lol. Always have to remind myself bubble wrap and tissue paper adds weight.

@ponyville also thank you. Its good to know you've had good experiences. Ive had good experiences with Etsy. The Etsy subreddits sometimes make etsy sound like a nightmare though... I do like how Mercari has a rating system that goes both ways.
I also saw that you have to be kinda patient with getting paid because of the rating system, but I think I can handle that. Etsy has a thing where they put like desposit thresholds so you have to make above a certain amount before they release your funds...:rolleyespony:.
