I'm sure you guys have heard this question a lot. I have searched other sites and gotten their opinions, but I want yours too! :)

I have some ponies that have kinked hair. It's been tangled and knotted so long that I am having problems getting it smooth again. I've read that you can use a curling iron, but that just sounds so risky! I have washed. combed and conditioned it, wrapped it around thing to curl it, tried to smooth it with my fingers.. it resists my efforts! Help me de-kink my girls! (sounds like they need alternate lifestyle intervention.. but no, it's only their hair)

Using a curling iron will be fine. Use it on a low temp, have the hair wet with hot water, then somewhat quickly drag the curling iron down it. You might have to do it a few times to get it straight.
But I've never had any trouble at all using a curling iron on pony hair. => You'll hear sizzling but it's just the iron and the water making steam!

I got some ponies with hair that was kinked from braids- and before that I got some ponies that had obviously had a hair straightener worked on them (and badly.) I'd take the kinked hair ponies over the bland, limp, bleached and stripped hair from the bad straightener job anytime, so if you don't trust yourself using one, you might want to try another method (of which I know none, based on what you're already tried). I don't even use a straightener or curling iron on my own hair, so I have no practice using one, I would NOT trust myself using one on a pony. HAH!

Good luck though, some kinks are worse than others, it sounds like the curling iron is your best bet!

I use Whippet's Boiling method. Never had a problem with that technique not working.

On the topic of kinked hair. I have a g3 pony who has kinked hair from being braided. I have tried hot water and a curling iron and its still kinked? What do I do??
