So after having a tough year, I've been out of both the pony loop as well as the forum and haven't had a chance to write my opinion on here but what does everyone think of the whole Equestria Girls thing?

To me it just seemed so out of the blue and unnecessary- like Hasbro had to hurry and come up with some kind of marketing ploy to compete with Bratz and Monster High.

I dunno... to me I feel kind of sad and disappointed with it... maybe even makes the G3.5 not so bad afterall! hahaha:LOL:

Well I am always have been & am always going to be a G1 lover so the others will never match up for me. But at least the other generations are still ponies :D but the Equestria Girls just don't fit in. I always thought My Little 'Pony' was made for an alternative to Barbie dolls.

I agree with you that they just made them to compete with Bratz & Monster High dolls. For me I would rather have an actual pony not a 'Barbie/Bratz' doll with pony ears.

I try to put the EQU in there on area. I know its hard to separated but some of the figures are good. I just watch the movie as what it is a movie as long as it does not become more then that its ok with me.

But my heart will always belong to G1 and G4 with G3 kimono and minty in the middle.

I liked it, and I like the dolls. I think EQ has a good message for tweens, about acceptance and friendship. I prefer my Ponies to be ponies, but EQ is cute too. :)

At face value without peering too much into the intense fandom, I think the dolls are pretty.

Competitive perhaps? Meh. They're still refreshingly pretty~ and I can imagine, being like 5 years old and receiving a gorgeous anthro pony doll on Christmas. I would be stoked.

I haven't seen the movie, though I've been told by credible sources that it is surprisingly watchable. I will probably give it a look-see sooner or later.

However, I don't have much (or any, actually) interest in the dolls. I've never really been a doll person, even as a kidlette, so it's no surprise that I far and away prefer ponies over dolls.
:winkpony:

I loved it. My daughter loved it, she is 5 1/2 and wants the dolls. I love the songs to it as well.

i like equestria girls. i loved the movie so i went and bought a set of the dolls:)

I thought the movie would be really stupid- like a long ad to sell dolls. Well, obviously it WAS a long ad to sell dolls- but it was surprisingly cute! I really liked it!

The dolls are cute too (the deluxe with poseable arms being far superior), and they don't hurt my love for ponies. I've always been a sucker for anthro dolls too (just got a Pipos Cheshire). I'm sure I would have loved these dolls as a kid. :D

There is no indication that the dolls are here to replace ponies- I think it was more of a try by Hasbro to get in on some of the teen market share- who have been buying monster high dolls in droves. Hasbro probably figured- if the teens love MLP, and are buying anthro MH dolls- why not pony dolls?)

I can't stand them. Didn't like the movie, don't like the dolls. Yuck, yuck, yuck. They couldn't have screwed the pooch more than they did with these things. They had a chance (if they were going to move into the doll market) to really do something amazing, and they blew it. Just barf. :madpony:

I think the idea is very cute. Most little girls would adore a stylish doll and parents would enjoy the positive message that comes with them.

I like my ponies to be ponies though and humanizing them just seems odd to me. If Hasbro made another show to sell the dolls that would be fine but I don't like the fact that they're suppose to be ponies.

When I first saw the ads for the movie I thought it would be terrible. Someone posted a link to it on Youtube here and I decided to watch it. I was completely surprised by how much I enjoyed the movie. I thought it was fun and had some great lines.

That said, I'm not a fan of the dolls. I don't hate them, but I'm pretty meh about them. I'm not buying one, but I'm not ready to pick up a torch and pitchfork and storm Hasbro headquarters.

Like others have said, Hasbro is trying to catch some of the money shed by the Monster High cash cow. I don't blame them for trying, since they aren't trying to replace regular ponies with EQ, but the only bit of my money they'll get from EQ is for the DVD.

Oh, and IMHO, NOTHING is worse than G3.5. Every time I see one of those horrid swollen-headed monstrosities I want to gag. They insult the artist in me to no end.:shockpony:

The thing is, they had the chance to do something really awesome... instead it's just the same old same old. Pushing bad body image onto little girls who already have so many self esteem issues. It's hard enough growing up. Toys like ponies are awesome, because there is no body dialogue there. Nothing to tell them they need to fit into a certain mold, nothing saying that you are only worth our time if you look like THIS. Now they've taken our ponies and turned them into girls... all looking exactly like one another, all with the same crazy dimensions. They could have done something awesome. But they didn't, and it sucks. :sadpony:

The Equestria Girls dolls don't appeal to me, personally. They don't really seem unique enough to make me want to collect them. Haven't seen the movie yet, though I'm interested!

I have not seen the movie so I really can't pass judgement on it, but I don't think I will go out of my way to see it. I was disappointed that Hasbro started tapping into the tween and teens with these dolls that look like Bratz dolls. I just think younger people might still like the ponies no matter what their age. It just seemed unnecessary and mainstream.
