Is Brony a 'bad word' ?

(It'd be a lot easier without the unpleasant memories from my childhood. I'd trade you hair and give you all my freckles if I could.)

Serendipity - I have so many freckles, and brown hair. Which I variously try to dye pillarbox red, purple or black. You have no idea how much foundation I have to plaster on to achieve my gothic pallour ;)

Yeah, i will join the over 30s brony club ;) though I had returned to the online pony community this year and was also completely bemused by the FiM and brony thing! I hadnt even realised G4s were out as all the shops round us still had G3.5s.

Pretty much people without enough responsibility in their lives who have to be angry over something to feel a sense of purpose is what I think it boils down to

I don't mind people calling themselves bronies and I have friends who call themselves bronies.

That said, I am not a brony and do not want to be called one. (I am not a "pegasister" either.) I'm a MLP fan, like I have always been. The terms "brony" and "pegasister" make me writhe a little in embarrassment, to be honest.

I will also note that on several message boards, there are guys who were not interested in MLP until FIM and who watch the show . . . and they too use "brony" to refer not to "fans", but to "those weirdo fans, YOU know, the creepy ones." So it really does depend what group you're talking to at the time, whether people will use it positively, neutrally, or negatively.

Personally, I would never assume or call someone a brony until they themselves have used the term for themselves.

Re:

I definitly don't see the term "Brony" as anything bad. I know there are some spoiled apples in the Brony bunch, but I'm well aware of that it's not everyone.

Meanwhile I would not like to be called a Brony. To me it means the fans of the new show and generation - and that alone.
I've been a collector my entire life and I wouldn't appriciate a new label now just because it's 'popular'.
As I said, I don't think it's a negative thing, but at the same time it feels like people are putting me in the wrong category and assume I'm just another FiM fan if they call me that.

Brony, to me, is someone who is a Fan of the Gen 4 Friendship is Magic. Nothing more.

People who have being collecting MLP from the first gen up are Pony Fanatics to me.

The fandom doesn't offend me per say, I don't get hotheaded and worked up about it and its not a big part of my other half's life style. He doesn't wear pink tutu's with mlp t-shirts and prace around living, breathing and farting ponies all day long. He just enjoys the sentiment of the comical anecdotes and some characters. However, I do think that some take it to extremities but in the end its completely harmless. Some haters need to stop haterading. xD Its not the end of the world and the world still turns. xD I mean, all you have to do is look at the onlineinterwebs and scope out the pics floating around.. XDDD They are just tryin' ta get down with the ponies. um.. and I didn't mean in a sexual way. Although, many continue on and taint on our girl childhood shows and characters! D: LAWL. For shame I tell you! For shame!

Goodness, for a pony collector I really don't know much about the details of pony-fandom. I tend to stick to just working with the actual toys, so when I saw "Brony" popping up, and when my younger sister told me she knew some guys who called themselves such, I figured it was a title for our male MLP fans. Ponies have for so long been "just for girls" (more in the eyes of the general public - I'm not judging those here), that as they become more popular to the wider community, I thought the guys developed a term for themselves. Basically I saw it as the name "Brother Pony" squished together. I always thought it was a nice identifier without sounding negative or judgmental.

I also agree. To me Brony is just a male fan of FIM. I don't pefer to call myself any of those terms like pegasister or brony. I don't want to be called a MLP fan. To me I am just a MLP-Mommy or mlp collector. However, the later is preferred for me.:satisfied:
