Well, my post is probably going to sound pretty negative, but that's prolly because most of us have been nagging and whining for G1 to come back ever since Hasbro stopped the line (1) and because more and more of us are disappointed (2). *raises hand and nods*
:: observations ::
1. Hasbro will not release G1.
They have been very clear on that matter over and over again. They rather mangle MLP and destroy its original design by replacing it with gimmicky ponies than go back to their old roots. Why beats the heck out of me and most collectors I've met.
2. Hasbro will mess with the G1 design as well.
Proof: the 25th anniversary re-releases. Yes, they are pretty but they are just.... Off compared to the original ones. First of all, they can not replace the old hair quality. Second of all, the eye paint is different and their color schemes vary heavily. Overall they are a bunch of very nice ponies and yes, if Hasbro had released a couple of unique characters I would probably not complain that much about them. But still, if Mattel can use EXACTLY the same plastics (or a 99% match) for their repros, why in the world can't Hasbro? There's just no excuse.
3. Hasbro couldn't even stay away from G3.
Look what they did to the 'old' G3. First they limited the line to only 7 ponies (BORING, not MLP-like, not creative) and then they started 'improving' the molds once more. First they had but one pose for Core 7, then all of a sudden they were released by large headed chibi ponies of various sizes. That's when I stopped collecting new ponies. I like the chibi-styled ponies, but not enough to collect. They are not special enough and lack the variation of the older G3, G2 and G1.
4. Hasbro is not competitive enough compared to other girl brands.
Period. I believe people @ Hasbro HQ are trying their best, but I'm just not convinced 'Team G2' and 'Team G3' have the same potential and creativity as 'Team G1'. Hasbro is a boy toy and boardgame manufacturer. New generation Sindy, a dollbrand that had some beautiful dolls in the 90s, also died a lonely death. Hasbro is simply not into girl toys as much as Mattel and MGA Entertainment (Moxie Girlz, Yummi-Land, Bratz). They are 'the Transformers company' for Christ sake and yes, they did go out of their way to promote Transformers and yes, they left MLP behind.
5. My Little Pony is going to be extinct.
Let's face it, people. Unless a miracle happens, our beloved toy will die off. Just LOOK at the new line. As cute as they are, they are not the ones that are going to save the line, period. They could have done so may things with this toybrand. I'm actually angry as I write this. I see a million of miles of missed opportunities. Why? Hasbro, do you honestly believe we give a F about the crazy longlegged unipeg and the impossible to find Dolly Mix G1s? Honestly, it's painful to see what is happening to MLP.
6. The only thing that would save MLP is an updated version of G1 or G3, with enough hair style and clothing possibilities as most fashion doll while still retaining all of the old values and innocent rainbowland theme.
Yes, it's possible. People have drawn it out, spelled it out for them. If they won't try it, then there's nothing we can do to convince them. Hasbro is too stubborn to try what collectors have been shouting for 15 years. They listen to us, nod and STILL PRODUCE THEIR OWN STUBBORN LITTLE DESIGNS. And I've had it with their stupid stubborness. Hasbro sucks at My Little Pony.
Short version: not going to happen, they [Hasbro] rather try their own exciting and brilliant ideas untill the line dies off one day. And then they all go "Sigh well, we've tried!"
I'll stop now, I'm too ticked when it comes to Hasbro's periodic MLP Grand Redesign Sprees. I am done with new MLP. I'm collecting other things today. It's sad.
