Hi there,

Oh no. Not now. Not my precious pride!

Okay. Here's the story. A while ago, I found a Big Brother 4-Speed at a flea market. Now, he seems to be one of my favourite ponies. So I put him right in the middle of my shelf in the second row. Beautiful.

However, he has major pony cancer. Which I can deal with. I had already rubbed acetone on all the spots to stop the spread. Even then - I didn't think it even DID spread. So I go on with my day as normal. Yeah, 4-Speed get's cancer easily. So what?

So what?! I'll tell you what. Mimic sits right in front of him on my shelf. Of course - she's the pride of my collection. Why not put her in the front row middle?

So last night, I decided to pick Mimic up to look at her. And as I looked - to my horror... I found four little dark spots surfacing on her right side.

I ran to the washroom for immediate treatment. Nothing took it off! So I grabbed 4-Speed to compare them. The spots on his forehead look very similiar to Mimic's new spots.

And my house is NOT humid! It's NOT damp. The air conditions are NOT bad in any way for ponies. And Mimic sits right in front of 4-Speed. Put two and two together and what do you get..?

Pony cancer MUST spread. How else would Mimic have gotten those spots? Dude - why Mimic? What else does that poor pony have to go through? Her eyes are already damaged thanks to mere water. >_<

4-Speed now sits in the corner of my shelf next to my far-past-baity Starflower. Wedding Bells Confetti took his place behind Mimic.

Oh, man! I don't know what to do! O_O

That stuff *does* spread like wildfire, I don't care what other say.
I keep all my cancerous ponies sealed in zip locks, so they don't pass it on to the others.

I agree with reble

I've never had cancer spread after the boiling of a pony :) failing that, do as lilith suggests, BAG 'EM UP!

Sorry about your mimic yuxie!!!

Re:

I guessed it spread as well.
Half a year ago I found some of my ponies with cancer. I started to look through every container I have with ponies and about 30 had got cancer and I know for a fact that not many of them had that when I bought them. i don't remember any of them that had it. Anyway, I sorted out the bad ones and baged up the rest. I hope none of my other have caught it too without me knowing.

It's so sad to hear that about your Mimic.

*hugs*

Re:

Oh great, now you all got me worried abotu my ponies again *sigh*

I guess I'll have to go through all of them one more time just to be sure even though they are in plasticbags now...

Alright, so what do I do, just drop the pony in the pot of water?

Take off her noodle before you toss her into boiling water, or she'll get all warped, and it won't be pretty.

Re:

Does annyone know if the cancer shows right away or if it grows inside-out?
Beacause if it's the last one maybe I should fear that my other ponies caught it exept I don't see it yet. What do you guys think/know?

****! now i'm paranoid. *runs to check my collection*

There's different types, the evil brown spot is probably the worst though. Closely followed by smooze.

Here is another good article on "cancer":

http://www.strawberrybonkers.com/miscd.html

A doll that is supporting fungal growth can be cleaned and restored. If the doll is again subjected to high humidity new growth will begin again. If a doll that has fungal spots is taken into a room with other dolls the other dolls will not automatically begin to grow fungi. If the humidity goes above seventy percent and a doll is susceptible (i.e., contains elements like carbon, nitrogen, oxygen, etc.) fungi will grow whether a fungus laden doll is present or not. With that in mind there is no contagion.

So I pop off their head and drop them in a pot of boiling water? Is that it? Any sort of time limit on this?

oh dear...I hope you find some way to help mimic, I know you love her to death!

Does anyone know if boiling will harm a glitter symbol? I have a Sunbeam with the nicest symbols I've ever seen (and he is not easy to find with good symbols!) and he has the dreaded pony cancer.

Sorry about Mimic . . . that's terrible. :(

Yes, boiling will screw up glitter symbols, but you can always hold ehr in the water and rotate around the symbols :)

Hi there,

I don't think anyone knows how to definitely stop it but bleach and/or boiling are the usual cures for mold.

Boiling will harm:
Glitter symbols
BBEs
So-Softs
TEs
Fading pink hair

And it can fade some symbols. However, in my experience, bleach has never harmed body, hair, or symbols/eyes/blush. I used it on a TAF Yum Yum and it got all the dirt off her body without harming the symbols at all. I would be careful around twinkle eyes but if Mimic's spots are just on her shoulder or legs or whatever, she won't be harmed. Since the body color is in the plastic it is impossible for bleach to change it. People have left ponies in bleach for months hoping to lighten them and nothing happened.

Sorry, but I won't take the chance for boiling Mimic. She still has her wonderful bright pink streak in her hair, and her eyes aren't too bad...

And no, DEFINATELY not bleach! Especially on Mimic - actually her body colour can be extremely touchy. Bleach could actually badly fade Mimic's hair and/or body colour if it wanted to. :(

I guess I'll just leave her alone and monitor it. Hopefully the spots won't grow too big...

So maybe this is a dumb idea but if I get a pony with cancer, I cover the spot in a thin layer of clear nail polish. I figure that if it's a fungus, then the polish will trap any spores that would potentially form when it's humid. I've never had any spread. What does everyone think?

Well, you would have to coat the whole pony inside and out so it may be useless. Mold doesn't go where it's not wanted. If you hung a new shower curtain in a bathroon with a moldy one it wouldn't catch it from the other curtain. It would grow on the new curtain if the right conditions are present. Even if the moldy one is gone. This applies to ponies with mold too. Unfortunately, simply covering one spot will not eliminate the problem.
