If you don't know we had a fox come in and Kill 4 of our hens and one died from reason we are not sure if it was a poison plant or what. I raised these hens from babies to adults and loved them all a lot. My parents say I am too attached to the chickens. But my parents do care for our chicken just not as emotionally invested as I do.

You teach a baby hen to sit on your hand when she still tiny and when she fully gone and sick and will only let you sit by her and feed her you kinda get how attached I am to these birds.
So my parent went out and got 4 new road island red chick. They are supposed to be all hens and I hope they are. We have to find Rooster new homes as our Rooster is not nice to other boys.
So I have been made new mommy hen to four babies to take care of. These girls are a little bigger then my hen when I started them out. My dad has to put our smaller pen up so they girls can get bigger before they go out with the bigger girls and Roho our Rooster.
I got to think of names. I also hope they settle down soon they are wild wild and I can tell no one has handle them at all.

Wish me Luck.
My dad said I might find another Scarlet in this bunch but there will never be another Scarlet she was my baby girl and I don't think you can replace a pet that special. But if I find one that has a good temper like her and is loveable I think I can learn to make room for another hen in my heart next to where I miss my baby girl.

Oh that is so exciting. I would love to raise little hens. They are so precious. I love them. My grandmother use to have them. Back in those days I was a little scared of the chickens because they were free roamers. Somehow I always thought they were trying to chase after me. I am not sure what happened to all of grandmother's chickens. One day they just were not on the property anymore. hmmmmm

Rhode island reds are one of the best layers. Five days a week for two good years. They're pretty, too. Congratulations on your new chickies. :)

Thanks the eggs are good but our chicken are more pets then layers. We just give the eggs away beside what we eat. We were getting about 2 dozen eggs
A week.
I don't eat a lot of eggs so it's mostly my parents that eat or if we bake with them.

Congratulations Ology. Here's hoping for the best. Piccies soon please?

Oh congratulations! I hope they are all sweet tempered little babies for you. I know no one could ever replace your special girl, but it is nice to have some new little ones to love!

Two of my babies are not doing so good.
I found Eglantine ( points for who can tell me who she is named after) was laying down and not getting up. I spent the better part of the day getting her in a box out of the sun and slowly giving her sugar water with chicken electrolytes in it. I also read to give them a half a baby aspirin for pain.

Then come to find out her sister Prissy is limping so my mom caught her and she got a aspirin and some sugar water and electrolytes and put in with Eglantine so the two together seems to help both.
Eglantine is finally eating and Prissy hopefully with the aspirin will feel better soon.
I have them in a pen out of the sun near the house so I don't have to go way down the hill and fight the other chickens to take care of them.

My hen Hedwig was picking on poor Eglantine so bad I though she had cut her. I had to pop Hedwig on her bottom to get her off Eglantine. Yes Hedwig is name after the Owl off of harry potter her sister is named Weasely.

Poor Eglantine. I'm glad your Bedknobs and Broomsticks Chicky-boos is doing better.

Prissy did not make it sadly she passed away this morning.

Me and mom got Eglantine leg to heal but something else must have been wrong. She would not eat and She sadly pass away just a hour ago.

I don't think I want anymore chickens nor do I want to get attached anymore to the ones we have. My mom and dad can just do as they do. I cant take losing more pets this year I just cant.
