How do I do a molded custom?

How do I go about doing a molded custom? I mean how can I say make a MLP into a dog?? What do I need to be able to do that?

For the one fully-sculpted custom I've done, I used Sculpey applied directly to the pony. I jammed a shaped piece of aluminum foil into the empty tail hole to create his new tail. After baking, I painted him as I have any non-sculpted custom.

You can find Sculpey/Super Sculpey/Sculpey III at craft stores like Michaels and Jo Ann. Wal-Mart also carries Sculpey and Sculpey III. Some customizers prefer Apoxie Sculpt, which you can find here. I've never used it, though, so I can't provide a comparison between the two. I know of a few others, also, who prefer Milliput.
