How did you get into pony collecting?

I loved them as a kid, both my sister and I did. We didn't have tons. As we got older, she stopped playing with them, she was the elder of us. I kept playing, and would pick them up whenever I could, after they stopped making them that included yard sales and second hand stores.
I realized it was a 'collection' when I found about twenty at a salvation army and was going to buy them but my mum and sister convinced me not to. When I got home I cried because I regretted not buying them and told my mum from then on I would buy any pony I found for "my collection." She hasn't tried to talk me out of buying them since.

I never stopped. I was always the geeky kid who loved her ponies. :D I'd buy them whenever I could, thrifts, markets, and even from my fellow students. Ebay opened up a whole new world of collecting for me though.

Ahahaha... none of these stories bore me. ^__^ Keep 'em coming! I don't know why I'm so interested, but alas and alack. I guess it's... you know... for the love of the ponies. ?_? AND I still am without my babies, so something has to take up the now-vacant space in me brains.

I always liked ponies when i was a kid then when i got to grade 5 i sold them at a yardsale then earlier this year when i started bying christmas gifts on ebay, I saw all the ponies they had and started bying them, i still don't know where my collection is headed, because after i wash their hair and make them look nice they pretty much just stay in my closet, i'm gonna work up more of a collection keep the ones i want, and maybe post them for sale on here or ebay, i wanna work up more of a collection though, i think i'm just gonna go with the us g1 ponies, i'm one of those people who is driven crazy if i have too much stuff, so i probably won't keep the collection forever, i like coming on here and sharing what i've found though.

In 1984, when I was 8, I got Cotton Candy and for the next few years I bought a pony once in awhile. I had like 32 by the time I stopped buying them in 1990. I gave them away. I wish I wouldn't have. In 1998 I got curious and looked them up online and all the memories flooded back, so I started buying them from eBay and thrift stores. The rest is history.

I remember having some MLPs when I was a child. However, I have no clue what happened to them or which ones I even had. When the G3's were released, I wanted to start collecting them (I was already collecting Care Bears as well). At first I would buy every single MLP that was released, even the ones I didnt care for much. After awhile it got to be too much! Hasbro was releasing so many of them. So I set limits for myself. Now I only collect the "beachy" MLPs, holiday releases, and any other ponies that I really, really like. I bought almost every MLP that was released in 2005 because it was the "Butterfly Island" series and I loved that line. I didnt buy many at all in 2006 (didnt care for the Crystal Princess) or 2007. Just holiday ponies. If Hasbro ever releases sea ponies again though, Im in trouble!

Hahaha, I think we're in trouble already. :p

i'm happy to hear that other people collect various kinds of toys too. I thought I was in a strict minority who had MLPs as well as other things like Care Bears and SSC. I like reading how everyone got started too. :)

i have a small amount of care bears aswell and one of my favorite toys when i was a kid was a toy called "trash bags" they were creatures that came in a very small garbage bag type thing, and you put the bag in water it would disolve and you were left with the tiny creatures, i don't really have a desire to collect them now, collecting ponies is enough but i was surprised to find someone elses collection of trash bags on ebay, I was also very much into power rangers.

My 3 year old actually got me into collecting ponies. It was the first thing she asked me to buy here, the birthday Ponyville playset. She has dolls but is drawn to animal toys. So when we go shopping its ponies are LPS she wants. I had purchased some of the Family Dollar ponies for her when she was even younger, you should see their hair and poor Misty Blue has large orange stains all over here from cheetos I think *Blush*. Needless to say they have been loved. So after purchasing the available ponies in the store we started looking for them on ebay, then we started looking them up to see what ones we still needed, and then it was down here from there. I fell in love with the G1's and collect those for myself. We love looking up symbols, learning the ponies names, and adore grooming our ponies. Ain't nothing like brushing some pony hair!! :)

I had ponies as a kid, but lost them all in a Mississippi to Alaska move. Last month a friend was telling me about her ponies and it revived that old nostalgia. When I went to the thriftshop looking for ponies I found 19 of them for 2.00. I kept most but sent the rest to my friend who talked to me about them. Now I m hooked. Am trying to get the old g1s I used to own and am looking for new ones I like.

For some weird reason in the g3 I prefer the white ones. I dont like g2s at all.

When I was like 11 or 12 my mom threw away my childhood high flyer. I used to have her sitting on my dresser because I thought she was pretty even though I didnt play with ponies anymore. My mom figured that I was too old for it and she threw her into the trash :(

Anyways when I was 15 I was browsing auctions at amazon.com and I saw her on there. I was shocked and had to buy her right away. There was a few other ponies by that seller too and I thought they were cute and picked them up as well (they were te locket and sunshine beachball). When they arrived I was so excited and I just kept seeing more ponies and wanting to buy them. I decided that I was going to start collecting and found the mlptp and thats what started it all!
