I'm a 34 year old guy living in Harlem, NYC with my husband and three Jack Russels. I own my own media production company and also wear a bunch of other hats. At the time I thought I had a full life. Then I found out about ponies...

I did not see this coming.

It all started in July with my 14 year old niece saying, "Did you hear about these guys that are into My Little Pony? Like they wear t-shirts and stuff? They call themselves Bronies." To which I responded, "That's really screwed up, but I guess every generation has to come up with something to confuse its parents."

This somehow planted a little seed in my head. For the strangest reason I kept saying the word Brony in the background of my head over and over. I would giggle a little. How silly! About two months later I stumbled across the website knowyourmeme.com. I didn't even know what a "meme" was at that point. I was amused and kept going from one topic to another. As all things of this nature nowadays this eventually led me to ponies.

The dots connected. I started reading pony memes and the history of MLP:FiM and spent an entire afternoon going from one site to another. I began watching the show on YouTube. There is this really low quality, 9 hour long video with every episode in one video. I watched this in secret, on my phone, late at night with headphones on after my husband had gone to bed. The shame! But I continued to watch one episode after another.

I remember seeing "Winter Wrap Up" for the first time and almost exploding with joy. The music was amazing! Happy ponies everywhere! I knew then, but couldn't believe, that I was getting hooked. I started reading at Equestria Daily and the MLP:FiM wiki sites. I was now forced to learn about all the facets of modern internet communications and culture that I had tried to ignore for the past ten years.

As I explored more and more of Gen 4 (I now knew what Gen 4 meant) I found the music, and writing, and tumblrs, and blogs, and PMV's, and remixes. There is an endless stream of pony everyday.

I began to read Equestria Daily with the same dedication I show to the New York Times.

I eventually found the Meetup group Bronies-NYC. I was kinda terrified to go to my first meetup. I couldnt sleep the night before. It was a MLP comic book reading. I had so much fun! We talked about ponies of course, but so much other stuff as well. I knew within 15 minutes that I had found my people! There I also met my friend Kar Red Roses. I started going regualrly to Bronies-NYC meetups and made so many friends. At this point I made the decision to own my love of ponies. I thought "I'm 34 and I like what I like." ( I also loooooove Big Macintosh!)

My husband used to run out of the room if I put on an episode. He said, "Maybe this is something you can enjoy on you own." This didn't last too long. We work together during the day in our office at home. I play music throughout the day. As pony music began to take over my playlist I noticed something strange. He started singing along. One day I caught him singing "Winter Wrap Up." It was all over for him. His favorite pony is Applejack.

With Kar I started helping out with NYC's pony convention, Big Apple Ponycon. This leads me to where I am today. Because of Ponycon I'm being introduced to the other generations of ponies and the larger pony community. What a deep well it is!

I'm now the webmaster of https://bigappleponycon.com and am so excited to meet more pony fans and help make the best all generations pony convention on the planet!

I blame Kar for my new obsession with G1 ponies. My best and favorite G1 pony is Bubbles and I'm going to try and collect the all the boys and start a Bubbles Brigade. Also because of Kar I'm now making customs! She brought over a bag of cancerous bait that we're turning into new fabulous ponies!

My home is filling up with ponies! This is a good thing!

Hi and welcome to the trading post! :smilepony: What a great story how you did found ponies. :winkpony: When my little pony fever comes it never goes away  I hope you have fun while exploring the mlp world!:satisfied:

Welcome to TP! Big Mac is definitely one of my fav's too. That is so cute how you got your husband hooked on ponies. I did the same thing to my fiance. He shunned the FiM cartoon and then slowly the music won him over, and now I'm not allowed to watch an episode without him. Have fun pony hunting!

Dude, you are awesome! Welcome to MLP!

I'm an 'old schooler' - 35, and found MLP as a child - the ponies of today are different from G1's. If you want an interesting experience, watch the old MLP episodes vs today's - there's a completely different emphasis on values and ideas. It seems strange, but the original MLP was imho much more innocent, and today's mlp is much smoother, slicker, refined and commercial. (Not knocking it, it's just different!)

I initially HATED G4. I found them too cutsey and anime like. But now? I'll admit I love rarity :D

Welcome, welcome and welcome!

xD

Hullo! Terrific to meet you.

No one expects the Pony Infection. It's like the Spanish Inquistion without the fabulous red cloaks.

I too infected my partner with the Pony virus. At first she was glad to buy me the toys I wanted (I've collected since a was a teenbooper in the 80s), but eventually she was completely won over by the cute. Probably just as well since my kingdom spreads throughout the house. It was be absorbed by the collective or live in my studio for her!

All is going to plan! Bwahaha!

I know you'll have a wonderful time here. Everyone is friendly and adorable. Every one of you! I loves you all so much. :satisfied:
