Basically, when FiM came out in 2010 and exploded a community on *****, Then, essentially, a new fandom was founded, the Bronies. Ever since the release of the 4th Generation of My Little Pony the Bronies have challenged gender stereotypes, as before then MLP was considered a toy line for girls, whereas now, it is a gender neutral toyline as Ms. Zacherle has intended the toyline to be.
