In the world of American college basketball, there's this little thing called March Madness, in which teams compete for a championship of some kind. Little is known about this competition, because nobody really cares about it - especially not in the Midwest... ::loud cough::. But what we *do* know is that teams compete via a bracket system, in a series of "heats". The winner of each heat moves on to challenge the winner of a seperate heat - the losers go bye-bye. A good time is had by all. Huzzah.
Several fabled years ago, I thought to myself, I thought: Why not merge the world of basketball with that of Ponies? Imagine it. Dribbling ponies. Basketball players with long, neon-colored hair. Or, more simply: a competiton between G3 ponies in the style of the basketball tournament. And thus March PONY Madness was birthed.
Here's what we'll do, we. Each day, two ponies will compete in a popularity contest in a new thread. MLPTP members can then cast their vote for which of the two they would like to see win the heat. Your reasoning is your own: you can vote however you deem fit.
At the end of 24 hours, the pony with the most number of votes wins the heat, and we move on to the next challenge. The loser of the heat is out of the competition: while they don't use a system of trap doors and alligator-laden moats in college basketball, we can use such things here.
This is the THIRD year for Pony Madness; only G3 adult ponies that were released since the last Madness will be elligible to compete. I have typed their names (more than 50 ponies total!) on a slip of paper each, and placed them in an urn (read: a small plastic tub). I randomly draw two names out, and those two ponies will compete in that day's heat. Only 32 ponies will end up competing.
Eventually, we will vote our way to a winner! We'll work ourselves into a VOTING FRENZY, WE WILL.
VOTING:
This year I am going to try using the POLL option for Madness; previously everyone typed their vote in a response, but previously there was no available poll option, either. HOPEFULLY this can work. I will quickly assess whether it is working or not after the first couple of heats. So, to cast your vote for the pony of your choice in each heat, you need only click a button.
Stipulation: Only one vote per person per heat. And only ONE vote per household. Entire families are not allowed to place votes seperately. You'll have to come to a consesus if more than one person in your home wants to vote, as you can only place one vote for the group of you.
When you vote, if you would like to also respond to the post with your reaoning, you may! You may even post responses in an effort to SAWY THE VOTERS with reasoning! It's welcomed!
ONTO Heat 1:
Let's get things started with the first Heat. Randomly selected is THISTLE WHISTLE, the nuerotic, scented pegasus, and FAIRY DUST, the shimmery "crystal princess."
(I don't own most of these newest releases, so stock photos will be used this time around, I'm sorry to say!)
And below is the system of brackets that will help us follow the compeition.
(You can view the past 2 completed Madness brackets here: 2004 competition; 2005 competition.)
Let the MADNESS begin!
